These duties include direct and indirect patient care activities which are essential toproviding comprehensive care to patients. Under the direction of the RN, engages in selected tasks and activities as directed to obtain and reportinformation to assist the nurse in the assessment, planning and evaluation of patient needs, treatment andreports deviations as identified to RN.Obtains and records vital signs as ordered and or delegated by the RNIdentifies pain assessment needs with each vital signs and as needed and communicates asappropriate to RNObtains point of care testing as ordered and or delegated by the RN: blood glucose, hemoccultmultistix, and urine HCG as appropriate for patient care unit.Performs intentional hourly rounding and documents per unit requirements.Measures, records and documents intake and output accurately.States normal parameters of treatments/procedures carried out in the role. Reports to the nurse anyobservations, patient behaviors and other indicators which fall outside the stated normal parameters ordirections given by RN.Enters/retrieves information accurately and in a timely manner into electronic medical record (EMR).2. Under the direction of the RN, performs technical duties and selected treatments, procedures and activitieswhich contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care.Appropriately assures patients are accurately identified (i.e. doors, ID bands, barcode scanning for labdraws etc.) following establish policies and proceduresAppropriately obtains specimens and performs tests assuring proper and timely transport followingestablished policies and procedures (i.e. 12-lead ECGs and blood draws) after successfully completingtraining.Applies and removes/ troubleshoots telemetry leads as delegated by the RN where appropriateAssists in care of patient requiring IV therapyAssists patients or performs activates of daily living such as: personal/oral hygiene, safe feeding,toileting and Elimination and ambulation as appropriate or as delegated by the RN.Performs perineal care in patients with indwelling foley catheters daily and as appropriate per patientneeds. Documents appropriately on flowsheet in EMR.Performs and/or describes post mortem careEmploys proper lifting techniques and use of safe patient handling equipmentDemonstrates knowledge of patient safety and fall prevention strategies. Compliance with fall protocolObserves and reports abnormal skin conditions following established policy and procedures. Assists inthe care of patients at risk or with actual skin breakdownPractices appropriate infection control procedures (ie. proper hand hygiene, gowning and gloving,isolation techniques).Assists in the care of patients with restraints. Documents according to guidelines per policySafely performs oral suctioning if applicableCarries out Tech responsibilities related to patient emergencies.Accompanies patients to other areas of the hospital when patient appropriate and as requested by the RN.3. Effectively assists in the care of patients with consideration for the safety of key populations as appropriate.Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team offering suggestions on addressingpatient/family needs, taking into account cultural and/or individual diversity and demonstrates sensitivityto these aspects of care delivery.Collaborates with nurse to assist in the development and ongoing evaluation of the patient''s plan of careand development of discharge plan4. Effectively and professionally communicates and interacts with patients, families, and staff. Covers theBusiness Associate (BA) desk in the absence of the BA under the direction of the NM or designee .Participates in receiving patient bedside report at the beginning of each shift and throughout the shift asneededDemonstrates ability to organize and prioritize patient care in a timely mannerIdentifies need to reorder supplies and coordinates with BA or designee following establish policies andprocedure. Reports inadequate supplies, faulty equipment, and environmental problems to appropriatepersonnel.Handles and documents in the EMR all patient valuables and clothing as per hospital/unit policy.5. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of roleRelocates and rotates to meet patient care needsCompletes patient care and direct assignment in a timely mannerAttends and participates in daily unit huddles and/or unit staff meetingsAssumes responsibility for delegated activitiesMaintains credentialing needs and skills necessary to work in technician role on their unitParticipates in and records attendance from educational programsAccepts constructive feedback from supervising RN or Supervisor and responds with pletes mutually agreed upon goals in s designated timeframeCompletes non-therapeutic functions under the direction of MD, PA, APRN or RN. Remove medication (s) fromthe pneumatic tube system sent from the Pharmacy or Hospital Supply to the unit/patient care area.6.Immediately deliver the medication(s) from the pneumatic tube system to the appropriate RegisteredNurse, Physician, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant or other appropriatelicensed practitioner.As directed by a Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or otherappropriate licensed practitioner, remove IV solutions from the patient care area''s clean utility room andimmediately deliver to the appropriate licensed practitioner.As directed by a Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or otherappropriate licensed practitioner, stock IV solutions in the patient care area''s clean utility room. QualificationsEDUCATIONHigh school diploma or GED; and CNA or other educational equivalent, i.e. Medical Assistant, CPCT, EMT, astudent nurse from an accredited program or LPN.SPECIAL SKILLS:Successful completion of orientation.Speak and write English proficiently.Successful completion of orientation/evidence of positive initiatives with patients and staff.ACCOUNTABILITYIs compliant with all mandatories including applicable certification, Healthstream, PLEXITYIn personal and job-related decisions and actions, consistently demonstrates the values of integrity (doing the rightthing), patient-centered (putting patients and families first), respect (valuing all people and embracing all differences),accountability (being responsible and taking action), and compassion (being empathetic).LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:CT CNA certification, EMT, a student nurse from an accredited program or an LPN. Basic Cardiac Life Support(BCLS) training must be obtained prior to employment or within one (1) month of hire. PCT must maintain BLS at alltimes during employment. If any training expires, the PCT will be suspended until it is obtained and documented.SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel,reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are also required to stand and walk. They must occasionally liftand/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision ,peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
