ResponsibilitiesPeraton is seeking a Space Network Operations Lead that will join our team in Greenbelt, MD to support our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract (SENSE). As prime contractor on the SENSE contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASAs worldwide satellite communication networks. Join the SENSE team to support NASA programs that integrate with state-of-the-art RF satellite communications systems and technologies!As a member of the NASA SENSE contract, you will be a part of a dynamic team responsible for systems engineering, design, development, integration, test, and maintenance of a new platform (NexTEra) which will enable any mission to be supported by any service provider. NexTEra will enable NASA to provide communications and navigation services in the Near Space Region to NASA missions and other customers.As the Space Network Operations Lead, you will support our NASA client in monitoring and control of the Near Space Operations Control Center (NSOCC) NexTEra system to ensure ongoing support to launch vehicles, robotics missions, and human spaceflight. This will require leading a team of skilled operators that provide uninterrupted network support 24 hours a day. Activities will include initial setup of NexTEra operational capability in the NSOCC, onboarding additional team personnel, and then assisting with a phased implementation of additional capability and enhancements.This position will be responsible for: Collaborate with members from the NexTEra project development team to understand project activities, and to monitor implementation planning, test activities, and network system updates. Support setup and testing of initial NexTEra system, document NexTEra operational issues via discrepancy reports, and coordinate knowledge transfer from the development team to the operators. Monitor overall NexTEra operations performance to ensure system availability for receiving, processing, and delivering required communications and data. Ongoing responsibility to quickly identify system performance issues, investigate root cause, and coordinate problem resolution. Must respond quickly and effectively during critical and emergency situations. Generate and maintain pertinent documentation such as discrepancy reports, daily reporting summaries and significant event reporting. Also report on implementation of added capability, scheduled testing, patching, and any issues. Review system user manual documentation and provide insight for possible improvements. Develop required checklists and local operating procedures (LOPs). Serve as primary operations point of contact for missions and space link providers (SLPs). Support expansion and planned transition of NexTEra to full 24X7 operation. Implement appropriate routine and contingency operational procedures for equipment and personnel. Provide leadership and oversight for all assigned personnel. Responsible for onboarding and training of new NexTEra system operators. Develop training materials for operators and an initial plan to establish a certification program. Subject to working different shifts, weekends, and holidays as part of normal shift scheduling to ensure 24X7 support by the operations team. Performs other duties, as assigned.QualificationsREQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Physical Science or Mathematics. 10+ years of experience with operations, maintenance, and sustainment of network data processing systems and equipment. 8+ years of leading teams, improving capabilities and processes. 5+ years of supervisory experience. Understanding of the software development lifecycle including required activities for installation of software upgrades, patching and testing. Knowledge of IT hardware, software, cloud services, and networking concepts. Ability to assimilate data quickly, concisely, and consistently. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in the use of desktop computers and use of MS applications (Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Word). This position requires the candidate to already have an active SECRET security clearance and to maintain that clearance.DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Prior experience working in NASA Ground or Space Network. Prior knowledge of NSOCC operations. Prior knowledge of the NexTEra project. Prior experience with AWS Cloud solutions from either a technical or leadership perspective. Motivated, safety minded, and demonstrate a team attitude. Able to work well under pressure during live mission support operations while in a customer focused environment. Able to triage user and program tasks and/or issues to best support live operations environment. Demonstrates strong leadership, communication skills and ability to effectively motivate others.
