Utility Locator

A Utility Locator identifies, locates, and marks the location of subsurface utilities in order to minimize accidental damage or disruption of service due to construction excavation activities, and must be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. These activities include locating and marking existing City-owned underground infrastructure including natural gas (including high-pressure gas and regulator stations and vaults), electric primary and secondary lines (including J-boxes and vaults), water lines, gas and water valves (including electronic markers), wastewater lines, and e-Streets fiber (including J-boxes and vaults), reclaim water system, chilled water/district cooling system, stormwater collection system, streetlights, and traffic signals (including fiber optic, telephone and loop components).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Responsible for locating cables and verification in accordance with blueprints and designated plans.* Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines* Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:* As the Utility Locator usually works alone, an employee in this class is expected to exercise considerable initiative in moving efficiently through the day''s work assignments.* Also, considerable independent judgment must be used, as the accuracy of the locate depends heavily upon how well the readings from the equipment are interpreted.* Directly responsible for all personal actions and any personnel, vehicles or equipment in the care, custody or control.* Report any personal or vehicle/equipment accidents/incidents immediately to supervisors, corporate and assist in the investigation of same.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:* High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)* Previous experience in underground utility construction a plus.* Possess general knowledge of construction practices.* Knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints, electronic quarter section, plat maps is required.* Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather (i.e. snow, rain, wind, etc.) and work overtime as required.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:* Valid driver''s license.* Possess a valid CDL (A) license a plus.* Will be required to complete OSHA 10 hour course provided by MasTec.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:* Lifting up to 50 lbs.* Requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level or working in confined spaces.Don''t miss this great opportunity!Benefits available include Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability and Life insurance, a 401k plan and Employee Stock Purchase plan.
