Overview Leviton is looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join their network solutions headquarters and manufacturing operations in Bothell, WA! Responsibilities The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining complex electrical systems and programming necessary for the operation of equipment and machinery used in manufacturing; including documenting, developing, implementing and sustaining equipment and machines for the production, validation and inspection of product. This position works under minimal supervision and may provide mentoring and training to others. Design electrical systems for equipment and machines with another senior engineer or manager to support manufacturing Develop programs to control PLCs, HMIs, actuators, servos, motion controllers, and vision systems Develop equipment in an organized manner by using project schedules, and spread sheets to manage component ordering and/or fabrication needed to assemble and program machine Develop functional flow charts of machine to facilitate machine programming and debugging Document programs and electrical systems of equipment and machines using appropriate programs in accordance with safety requirements and quality system procedures Specify and order electrical components needed to support the operation of equipment Debug, troubleshoot and repair equipment and machinery in support of production, quality and design engineering groups Assemble, wire, program, install and debug equipment purchased or developed internally Document operating manuals for equipment and machines developed internally or purchased Coach and mentor less experienced department personnel to develop their skills and abilities. Provide guidance, leadership, mentoring and training for technicians Qualifications Education & Experience BS in Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline required Minimum 6 years of applicable experience including: development and maintenance of machines and equipment used in manufacturing and Experience in programming PLCs, HMIs, and process controls Skills and Abilities Comprehensive understanding of mechanical equipment and processes Ability to develop machine programs and documentation using machine programming languages. This includes programming PLCs, robots, actuators, servos, and vision systems Must have a firm grasp of discreet logic and electronics (particularly open-collector outputs used on in-line, test equipment IO). Ability to implement and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet, MECHATROLINK, RS-232/422/485 Ability to develop complex machine and equipment electrical specifications including electrical schematics and wiring guidelines. Ability to develop machine programs and documentation using machine programming languages (Control Logix, IEC 61131-3, languages found in motion controllers and vision systems). Ability to complete the assembly and wiring of machines to specifications and supervise other resources to complete similar work Ability to document programs and schematics using CAD or Visio. Ability to organize code revisions without dedicated software. Be able to assign tasks in an orderly manner and ensure completion by maintenance technicians. Ability to organize programming and machine functions into a flow chart. Ability to organize documentation and work such that it is understandable by peers and can be used in debug and trouble shooting. Ability to integrate multiple pieces of equipment or stations into a system Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (Vision systems, feed systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors, pneumatics screwdrivers, etc.) Ability to debug and troubleshoot customized off the shelf equipment circuit boards from automated equipment for electrical issues, sometimes without schematics. Candidate will require a basic understanding of the mechanical functions of machines so that the source of the issue can be identified. Must understand electrical codes, electrical diagrams, practices and their limitations Experience with industrial electrical systems including knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, and UL508 Must have knowledge of and be able to use mechanical and electrical tools: calipers, micrometers, voltmeters and oscilloscopes.
