We are looking for a highly motivated, independent, and curious Software Development Engineers to bring these solutions to life. This is a highly collaborative role working with SDEs, SDMs, QAEs, Product Managers, and Sr. leaders across all of Amazon''s reading and shopping experiences.Key job responsibilitiesAs a Software Development Engineer, you will help shape the future of content formats for Kindle and how we ensure *_all_* types of books, magazines, comics, and personal documents are accessible on Kindle. You demonstrate a solid understanding of computer science principles and have the software experience to ship products on multiple reading surfaces (iOS, Android, Fire OS E-readers and PC). SDEs at Amazon are expected to have industry-leading technical abilities. You will be comfortable estimating, planning and delivering customer facing features in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You are innovative, self-directed, and can communicate clearly verbally and in writing. You have the drive to create reading experiences that are fun and comfortable for all Kindle customers.A day in the lifeAs a Software Development Engineer, you will* Invent software solutions including delivering designs, hands on problem-solving and writing efficient code. * Designing and building new features that are highly performant and scalable.* Instill best practices for software development and documentation, making sure designs meet requirements, and delivering high quality software on tight schedules.About the teamThe A11yBaR team is focused on solving the challenges faced by people with disabilities. We own the "Accessible Customer Experience" supporting readers, shoppers, and authors with disabilities across all of Amazon''s Core Shopping and Kindle experiences. We work to ensure every customer can shop on Amazon, read any book with Kindle, or publish their own books and stories through Kindle Direct Publishing.Basic Qualifications 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.2+ years of non-internship professional software development experienceProgramming experience with at least one software programming language.Preferred Qualifications * Experience building products and services that are accessible to blind and low vision customers, complying with industry standards such as WCAG 2.x.* Strong empathy for customers with disabilities.* Mobile application development on iOS and/ or AndroidAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
