Please note this is subject to change at any point in time to ensure compliance with company policy or government mandates and certain client facing roles may have separate protocols.Residency in or relocation to Louisiana is preferred for all positions.POSITION PURPOSEThis job is responsible for overseeing the actuarial management of functions and business segments.NATURE AND SCOPE* Manages People* This role directly manages 7 workers* This role directly manages these jobs: DIRECTOR, ACTUARIAL SYSTEMS;DIRECTOR, PRICING/IND ACTUARIAL OPS;DIRECTOR, VALUATION AND SENIOR PRODUCT ACTUARIAL;Executive Assistant-SVP;Medical Claims Trend Analyst;VP, Actuarial;VP, UNDERWRITING* This role reports to this job: SVP, Chief Financial Officer* Necessary Contacts: : In order to effectively fulfill this position the incumbent must be in contact with:All levels of BCBSLA personnel.Louisiana Hospital CFO''s that participate in Risk Sharing Agreements.QUALIFICATIONSEducation* Bachelor''s in a related field required* Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor''s degree.Work Experience* More than 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in health insurance actuarial rating/reserving/underwriting or related field required* 3 years of executive level or above is strongly preferred* 5 years of related experience as a health actuary is preferred* Experience can run concurrentlyLicenses and Certifications* FSA strongly preferred* ASA strongly preferredACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* Oversees the development of methods, systems, models and assumptions designed to project premium and claim amounts per member for the purpose of ensuring that budgeted pricing targets are as precise as possible.* Oversees the development of pricing methods, systems, models and assumptions designed to achieve targeted premium levels and ensure that a fair and appropriate premium rate is provided for each member.* Oversees the communication of pricing changes to Underwriting, Marketing, Information Technology and Actuarial Systems departments.* Oversees the delivery of pricing support to the Marketing Development department to ensure that new products and benefits are adequately and competitively priced and that pricing is consistent with actuarial principles.* Oversees the development of methods, systems, models and assumptions used in estimating unpaid claims liabilities to ensure that these elements of the financial statements are as accurate as possible.* Oversees the development of actuarial systems that support actuarial and underwriting processes.* Provides advice and consultation in the company risk management process to help ensure that the company is anticipating and protecting itself from potential risks.* Oversees the delivery of underwriting services to promote underwriting practices that are consistent with actuarial principles.* Oversees the preparation and certification of regulatory filings to ensure that the company is in compliance with related laws, regulations, and actuarial standards.* Provides career development opportunities and mentoring to staff to ensure growth, advancement and a high level of quality and productivity.Additional Accountabilities and Essential FunctionsThe Physical Demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the Accountabilities and Essential Functions of the job.
