This position is based at our Raleigh, NC, Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, Rockville, MD or Plymouth, MN locations. This position offers a Hybrid work schedule!Position Overview:As the Senior Principal Firmware Engineer, you will be involved in many different aspects of the product life cycle, ranging from product architecture and definition through embedded software design and validation.This role will be responsible to deliver high quality embedded software features and lead a technology roadmap.If you have a passion in wireless network communications, network routing, standard protocols, and technical leadership, this is the role for you!In this role you will:* Drive software architecture across Smart Grid products for new complex end-to-end features.* Manage technical aspects of software features through entire life cycle, engaging with cross functional teams to drive software dependencies.* Ensure correct technology choices and champion extremely high standards in adherence to best practices while ensuring sound technology, timely and cost-effective designs.* Lead and mentor junior engineers on software features and drive them to meet the schedule.* Serve as technical expert for entire software system. Engage with customers directly to present technology and discuss field issues.* Develop requirements and roadmaps for embedded platforms based on needs from across Eaton businesses and industry trends. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Raleigh, NC, Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, Rockville, MD or Plymouth, MN will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.* Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.Preferred Qualifications:* Master''s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Technology Development, or related field of study from an accredited institution.* Minimum of 3 years of experience mentoring, coaching, or technical leadership.* Minimum of 3 years of experience with Agile development methodologies and concepts within embedded software development lifecycle.* Proven experience in developing communications protocols and/or network routing protocols.* Proven experience with basic concepts of RF or wireless communications.* Proven experience with the STM, and/or ARM-based microcontrollers.* Experience with low-power management device development.* Experience with low level interfaces to hardware: DMA, SPI, I2C, UARTs and serial flash device.* Knowledge and experience working with Linux and associated package tools such as Perl/Shell scripts.* Knowledge and experience with Python and C++.* Knowledge of the OSI communication model. Design, implementation, and/or simulation based upon those communications system principles.* Experience working in the electric utility market and/or power system knowledge.Position Criteria:* Experience with architecting software for a brand-new product development.* Ability to drive and execute CI/CD concepts, tools, and technologies.* Proven ability to work in fast paced environment while managing competing tasks and demands.* Proven ability to define and deliver software features from ambiguous requirements* Technical leadership through Requirements, Design, Development and Testing.* Ability to engage with external customers directly on product behavior and support issues.* Teamwork, communication, strong interpersonal skills across cultural and organizational boundaries.* Coaching, mentoring, and ability to drive collaboration across different product focused teams.* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively explain complex technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences, high learning agility, great follow thru in meeting commitments.* Ability to communicate with multiple groups including marketing, product management, quality, and executive leadership.* Strong problem solving and reasoning ability, exhibiting technical innovation and creative solutions.Eaton considers qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with local laws.
