The Optum PNW Accounting Department is seeking a Director of Accounting to join their team full time. This is a hybrid remote position based in the Greater Seattle/ Everett, WA area. The Director of Accounting functions as an integral member of the team. This position will play a key leadership role in the Pacific Northwest controllership team, overseeing, directing, and reporting on monthly close, providing detailed financial reporting and analysis, ensuring best practices across all accounting processes, and ensuring the accuracy of both the income statement and the balance sheet. This position will interact regularly with both local and national teams to support the monthly close, integration efforts, and process improvements. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an outstanding ability to build relationships with staff, peers, and senior management. You have an interest and ability to take charge of various accounting processes and projects, while driving efficiencies and standardization. You love to live in the weeds but also to understand the big picture. You desire to play a critical role in regional growth and strategy. You are self-motivated, detail oriented and have a commitment to continuous improvement. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, complex environment. You pay great attention to detail and deliver results under deadlines as well as working effectively cross-functionally in a rapidly changing environment. The Director of Accounting is responsible for and not limited to: Develops, implements, and maintains processes and procedures for accurate and timely analysis of financial data, ensuring best practices. Develops and maintains internal control structure and procedures for financial reporting. Resolves high level financial reporting issues. Manages the audit process and work with outside auditors regarding accounting and reporting issues. Oversees the preparation and analysis of internal reporting ensuring the quality, reliability, and timeliness of the reports. Provides operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, rules, regulation, and laws. Summarizes findings on the monthly, quarterly, or annual reports to senior management, auditors, and regulators. Leads and supports future integration projects and initiatives Partners with the leadership team on regional strategy, projects, acquisitions, and growth Maintains and supports financial internal control environment, including documentation and self-testing Integrates new businesses Participates in regional leadership meetings and initiatives Liaises with OptumCare and Care Delivery Finance and local market executive management Collaborates with other functional areas within OptumCare: Care Delivery FP&A, Financial Data Management, General Operations Monitors and proactively tracks risks and opportunities Supports the Company''s strategic and operational planning initiatives, as applicable Leads, mentors and assists staff through change in a positive and intentional way, with a focus on staff development and team building Supports and leads various special projects as required Performs additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor''s degree in Accounting or Finance Experience: 10+ years demonstrated progression in Accounting Excellent PC skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other financial reporting tools Dedication to leadership and team development Experience and comfort managing through change and process improvement Demonstrates proficiency in practical application of internal control skills Experience in the financial close process and understanding of underlying complexities Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated success partnering with, leading and influencing multiple teams Ability to effectively summarize and articulate financial results Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines Vaccination Status: Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role.
