Requisition Id 8868 Overview: The Instrumentation and Controls Services (ICS) group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer. I&C Engineers serve as the primary technical resource and design authority for issues related to instrumentation and control systems throughout ORNL. They are the resident authority on engineering related to control system design, operations, and maintenance. I&C Engineers ensure configuration control for research instrumentation, control systems, and manages associated projects for its internal needs as well as for ORNL research community. Major Duties/Responsibilities: * Support the design, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical systems.* Maintain an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects with instrumentation and control systems for which they are responsible. * Estimate costs related to design, materials, and labor for assigned projects.* Maintain and continually improve control systems, processes, and configuration management.* Coordinate with other ORNL work groups for design, fabrication, or repair of control systems.* Provide closeout documentation for projects such as mechanical drawings, schematics, and material list* Maintain current knowledge of standards, codes, and regulations with respect to fabrication, installation, and the maintenance of control equipment.* Serve as an Electrical Equipment Inspector (EEI) monitoring modifications and fabrication for code compliance.* Principle responsibility for equipment and system modifications (design, construction oversight, acceptance testing, etc.). * Manage configuration control activities during design and fabrication phases.* Cultivate close relationships with customers to understand their needs, respond quickly to their requests, and provide feedback in a timely manner. * Effectively support other Core Team''s with craft employees in a union environment. * Effectively support work with craft employees in a union environment. Basic Qualifications: * An accredited B.S degree in Electrical Engineering is required* Minimum of five years relevant experience* Knowledge of I&C engineering and design practices including drawings, specifications, and codes* Proficient in use of office automation tools, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel* Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in instrumentation design, complex control system maintenance, and electrical fabrication.* The ability to understand and manage technical issues related to electrical and mechanical tasks.* Proficient in engineering design with hands on experience of control systems, and industrial maintenance.* Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL508A, UL61010, ANSI, BICSI)* Experience in AC power distribution, machine control systems and industrial equipment.* Experience with PLC architecture design, programming, testing, and validation.* Possess knowledge of data acquisition platforms such as National Instruments LabVIEW. * Candidates should have strong computer skills, good interpersonal abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills * Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory * Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs LinkedIn Scraping: Promoted: LI-DC1 This position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days after which it will close when a qualified candidate is identified and/or hired.
