V O L U S I A C O U N T Y S C H O O L S Posit ion DescriptionDATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (TECHNOLOGY SERVICES & INNOVATION)REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor''s Degree in an analytical field, e.g. computer science, statistics, business administration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience • Five plus (5+) years experience database experience with detailed knowledge of Microsoft SQL database architecting, design, fault tolerance, log shipping, backups, clustering and security • Demonstrable working knowledge of ETL practices, data warehouse architectures, business analytics, business intelligence (BI), or comparable experience in big data environments • Established success building partnerships with people and teams to establish goals, objectives and action plans to produce expected results REQUIRED SKILLS • Knowledge of database technical components in relation to business intelligence technologies • Knowledge of database architecture and designs, star schemas, dimensional models, and data marts • Ability to develop efficient, flexible, and scalable dashboards and data views • Ability to install, upgrade and optimize current and future database platforms • Engages in collaborative development of the technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps and practices • Skilled in Relational Database Management Systems (RDMS) including IBM, DB2, SQL Server; Multidimensional Database Structures, Tabular Database Structures; Microsoft (MS) SQL Server Management Studio, MS Visual Studio, MS Power BI or similar software, MS SSAS; MS SSIS; MS Azure; Intermediate to expert Microsoft Office Suite• Preferred skills using PowerShell, REST API, Visual Basic (VB), ASP.NET (4.0+), C, Java, Javascript, PHP, PostgreSQL, Python DAX, JSON, XML, DMX, MDX; Visio, Inspiration, and SharePoint; Project planning tools such as Basecamp, MS Planner, JIRA; Source control such as Team Foundation Service (TFS); Educational industry knowledge• Leadership skills to influence and drive cross-functional teams toward common solutions, without direct management control over those teams or resources• Demonstrated communication, presentation, influencing, and reasoning skills in support of business leaders, technology leaders, colleagues, and vendor representatives• Proven ability to analyze, document and present summarized and detailed proposed enterprise solutions • Strong proficiency at querying and architecting relational databases • Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities REPORTS TO Manager, Software Applications SUPERVISES Not applicable POSITION GOAL Assume the responsibilities of all technical aspects of the Database Administrator environment including administration, performance, technical design, development, implementation, and support in response to business analytics utilizing diverse design techniques and approaches PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. *Manifests a professional code of ethics and values. 2. *Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing Volusia County Schools (VCS) in a positive light. 3. *Design, create and implement automation for the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization and management tasks. 4. *Work with the Business Intelligence Analyst and other district divisions to gather requirements and provide solutions for approved Business Intelligence endeavors. 5. *Work with the Business Intelligence Analyst to stage and normalize data to develop and deploy elegant Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards and data views to meet district reporting requirements. 6. *Analyze complex data and reporting needs to determine the best technical approach to meet requirements of the district. 7. *Work as a team player to achieve results. Must be able to collaborate with other departments and build positive working relationships. 8. *Perform the analysis for the new requirements of the current production Data Warehouse as it relates to the district''s future business intelligence needs. V O L U S I A C O U N T Y S C H O O L S Posit ion DescriptionPAGE TWO, DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (TECHNOLOGY SERVICES & INNOVATION)9. *Provide technical leadership vision in regards to the District''s Business Intelligence needs with the attempt to stay ahead of future customer requests for data presentation and modeling. 10. *Administer, maintain and deploy database software, security rules and permissions, repository modeling, cache, dashboards and other supporting code and software. 11. *Apply skills toward resolving issues related to the database performance and backend environment. 12. *Follow the district''s policies and procedures as related guidelines, executive limitations, the instructional initiatives, and charter guidelines. 13. *Follow the district''s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets. 14. *Ensure database platforms and supporting technology being utilized are supported and kept up-to-date with vendor and industry standards. 15. *Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position. 16. *Communicate insights and recommendations to senior management. 17. *Serve as backup to the job duties of the Business Intelligence Analyst. 18. Noise - The worker is subject to noise.
