Primary Care- Outpatient - Registered Nurse

Summary Located in the Fleet Medicine Directorate, Branch Health Clinics at Navy Medicine Training and Readiness Command Great Lakes (NMRTC). The position is assigned responsibility for the provision and coordination of all services required for active duty military service members, using a multi-disciplinary team approach to assure quality, comprehensive, cost-effective care. The clinic operation may vary seven days a week, Monday to Sunday, including Holidays. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards With administrative oversight by the Division Officer/Nurse Manager, Associate Chief Nurse or Department Head, the RN provides independent nursing expertise in assessment, data collection, and analysis. The RN assesses the patient''s clinical and psychosocial status, diagnosis, and current treatment plan. He/she coordinates the myriad of medical treatments, referrals, and education. Assesses the needs of patients related to diagnosis, treatment options, psychosocial impact, and discharge planning. Specifically, the incumbent must (1) expertly assess and triage the medical and psychosocial needs of new and follow up patients, (2) identify the optimal range of treatments individualized to each patient, (3) assure that the highest possible quality of treatment and related health services are provided in a timely manner, and (4) develop, monitor, evaluate, and revise the multiple protocols, procedures, The major duties and responsibilities include; but are not limited to the following: Assists primary care staff with the routine and timely completion of care for adult ambulatory care patients within any division under the cognizance of their assigned Fleet Medicine Clinic. Within federal/state/locally mandated nursing practice guidelines, provides independent nursing care to adult ambulatory care patients within any division under the cognizance of Fleet Medicine Clinic. Demonstrates operational knowledge of nursing procedures and takes a leadership role in using safe, cost effective measures to provide patient care, including ability to operate and maintain equipment/utilities specific to their area of assigned primary duty, to include but not limited, to crash cart equipment, intravenous equipment, medication administration, wound care equipment, PicPoint Machines, PYXIS, and office equipment (i.e. fax machine, computers, phones). Involves patients with plan of care and coordinates plan with the team members to include telephone consultation and care management as needed. Utilizes policy orders appropriately. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: BSN Preferred Minimum 1-2 years f Acute or Long Term Care experience. Current certification in BLS/CPR Certification in Gerontological Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) a plus Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor''s degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor''s of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor''s degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master''s degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor''s degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master''s degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master''s degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.
