Requisition : 545863 Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital, 1800 Orleans St, Baltimore MD 21087 Shift: Full-time, (40 hours) Day Shift (7:30 am. - 7:00 p.m.) Weekend Work Required Non-Exempt, CK POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, uses knowledge of concepts related to respiratory care to evaluate and recommend appropriate treatment for patients with cardiopulmonary compromise. Demonstrates proficiency in setting up, operating, delivering, and discontinuing medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, inhaled medication administration, bronchial hygiene therapy, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, emergency care/resuscitation, and airway management to patients with cardiopulmonary complications. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to contribute to each patient''s overall plan of care. Learns the role of charge respiratory therapist and new hire/student preceptor and may serve in such capacity. Attends and actively participates in a minimum of one department/ hospital based committee. Other duties as assigned. Education: Minimum Associates Degree in Respiratory Care (or equivalent) required. Graduation from a Registered Respiratory Therapy Program approved by the Commission for the Accreditation of Respiratory Care Education (CoARC). Bachelor''s degree in Respiratory Care or other associated bachelor''s degree preferred. Knowledge: Must have knowledge of respiratory care and related equipment as gained in a COARC approved respiratory Care program. Must be competent in the use and clinical application of equipment including the following: mechanical ventilation: oscillatory ventilatory equipment; nebulization; oxygen, mixed gas systems and administration; positive and negative pressure ventilation; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; airway management systems; and equipment to treat patient with cardio-pulmonary diseases. Requires the aptitude to be trained and the knowledge to apply all equipment/theories used in respiratory care. Skills: Must be proficient in the ability to analyze and interpret physician orders perform therapy and communicate outcome of treatment to the physician and health care team members. Applies respiratory care modalities to patient''s consistent with JHH practice along with hospital approved techniques of infection control. Demonstrate organizational skills that allow the individual to map out and provide clinical care within their area of responsibility. Performs as a super user for a minimum of one new or current equipment/program, or other projects as assigned. In age specific populations, must be familiar with particular patient populations to which they are assigned. Required Licensure, Certifications: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required. For staff hired during Maryland State of Emergency due to COVID19 pandemic- RRT credential required of all new hires within 12 months of RRT eligibility or employment at JHH whichever is sooner. Maryland State License to practice Respiratory Care Required For staff hired during Maryland State of Emergency due to COVID19 pandemic- Maryland State License to practice Respiratory Care is required of all new hires within 3 months of obtaining CRT. BLS required ACLS preferred NBRC Adult Critical Care Specialty ( ACCS) preferred Work Experience: Minimum of one year of critical care experience. Documented proof/ demonstration of all activities required of an RCP II Machines, Tools and Equipment: Must be competent in the care of patients using departmental ventilators, HFOV, aerosolized medication systems, oxygen and compressed gas systems, nitric oxide admiration systems, bronchopulmonary hygiene equipment and equipment used in the maintenance care of artificial and normal airways.
