About the OpportunitySummaryApplications are invited for the Associate Research Scientist position that will serve as the MassBays Metro-Boston Regional Coordinator and work on coastal habitat and fisheries research and outreach. The associate will be supervised by Dr. Jonathan Grabowski at Northeastern University''s Marine Science Center. This position will also interact with the MassBays staff; faculty, staff, and students at Northeastern''s Marine Science Center and other campuses; and stakeholders throughout the region to foster desired outcomes for the Bays (e.g., improved habitat continuity and resilience, greater water quality, robust interagency and interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships). This includes coordinating meetings among regional stakeholders, providing region-specific education and outreach, supporting municipal and regional actions that promote resilient coastal habitats and communities, representing MassBays on relevant networks and broadening its audience within metro Boston, and participating in relevant research projects within the MassBays region. In addition, this position will participate in ongoing coastal habitat and fisheries research in the Grabowski Lab at Northeastern University''s Marine Science Center. Research activities include assisting with analyzing and publishing ongoing projects, helping develop and prepare new grant proposals, providing functional and administrative supervision over supporting research staff, mentoring undergraduate students, and transferring technical and statistical expertise. Major Responsibilities Participate in ongoing coastal habitat and fisheries research in the Grabowski lab and of relevance to MassBays, including field and lab experiments and surveys; stakeholder surveys, focus groups, and interviews; data analysis; manuscript preparation and publication. Coordinate stakeholder meetings, support municipal actions, and conduct ecological restoration to promote the desired outcomes of MassBays throughout the metro Boston region, such as increasing water quality and habitat conservation and resilience. Promote MassBays through supporting education and outreach activities at the MSC and in and around metro Boston. Represent MassBays on relevant science, management, and outreach networks throughout coastal New England and nationally to promote the goals of MassBays and the National Estuaries Program more generally. QualificationsMust have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or another relevant field; experience coordinating stakeholder meetings, conducting science communication to diverse audiences, and working with coastal communities to support environmental sustainability; experience that demonstrates the ability to plan and help execute research; and previous supervisory experience.
