Overview Systems Engineering Group (SEG), a wholly owned subsidiary of AXIENT LLC, is seeking enthusiastic candidates wanting to support the defense of our nation. Responsibilities SEG provides an intellectually stimulating environment with excellent opportunities for technical and leadership growth. This is a leadership position in the signatures group. The signatures group is responsible for developing state-of-the-art RF, IR, and laser digital signatures, tools, products, and analysis packages of threat missile systems. The successful candidate will provide technical oversight and delegate tasking to the signatures group members. The selected candidate will be responsible to hire and train new staff, update and maintain group processes and standards, mentor junior members, and guide the team''s professional development. In addition, the successful candidate will interface with program managers and customers, directly contributing to various technical areas of responsibility within the group, and perform reviews of all products and briefings developed by signature group members. Responsibilities include: * Develop and promote group vision, technical roadmap, and identify / drive methods for the development and improvement of capabilities and toolsets * Directly contribute to technical projects, analysis, or tool development * Provide technical oversight, review, and feedback to staff on their tasking * Mentor and coach junior staff * Communicate with SEG program managers on group task status and identification of new tasking when needed * Support program managers in the generation of ROMs/estimates to develop products and capabilities * Recruiting: Coordinate with program managers on hiring needs, develop requisitions, review resumes, attend career fairs, conduct interviews, and make hiring decisions * Maintain group schedule and support integration of group schedule into master schedule * Develop and maintain group standard operating procedures (SOP) and training guides * Compose and present yearly performance reviews and goals to staff in addition to quarterly check-ins Qualifications Required Qualifications * Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD SECRET clearance * Proven experience participating in and leading development of digital products or analysis within the missile defense community. * Ability to successfully respond to dynamic priorities and requirements, in addition to having strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills * An educational background in physics, mathematics, engineering or related field * Experience: Bachelor''s degree with 6+ years of experience, Master''s degree with 5+ years of experience, Doctorate with 3+ years of experience * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Strong analytical skills * Experience with scripting languages (MATLAB, Python, C++, etc.) * Experience with documentation and presentations via Microsoft office products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) Desired Qualifications * Active US DoD SECRET or TOP SECRET Security Clearance * Masters or PhD degree preferred with relevant project experience * Familiarity with a Linux environment * Advanced MATLAB and/or Python skills supporting modeling and simulation development and data analysis * Modeling and analysis experience and capability in the area of Threat Engineering: The characterization of adversary missile systems from the perspectives of RF signatures, IR signatures, kinematics, Aerodynamic prediction including CFD, sensors and signal processing, debris, clutter, plume and wake effects * An understanding of how digital threat data is used in conjunction with the development and maintenance of the Aegis defense weapon system and programs * Self-starter - Demonstrate independent ownership of tasking. Position affords opportunity to define technical paths and lead tasks based on technical understanding of engineering community and appreciation of customer needs * Familiarity with version-control (SVN/Git), issue tracking (JIRA), collaboration software (Confluence) * Familiarity with high-performance computing environments * Mathematical background in areas such as statistics, linear algebra, complex analysis, differential equations, Monte Carlo methods, numerical methods, and machine learning (ML) or artificial Intelligence (AI) Job location: Columbia, MD Travel: Local travel anticipated at less than 5 percent and rare short overnight trips. Must meet applicable COVID safety requirements and protocols.
