Please review the job details below. Maxar is seeking a Director of Space Communications for its Space sector in Herndon VA, with travel 1-2 times per month to Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for all internal and external communications for the company''s spacecraft and robotics manufacturing business, which has operations in Palo Alto, San Jose, and Pasadena. Reporting to the Vice President of Public Relations within the CMO organization, you will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders across the business to tell the Maxar story through a broad range of media and channels. This role will work collaboratively with members of the Space marketing team to build integrated marketing and communications plans to include executive thought leadership, corporate announcements, blog posts, media interviews, product campaign deployments, and employee communications and engagement activities. We are looking for a passionate, experienced communicator with experience in the space or aerospace & defense sectors. Responsibilities: External * Define Space communications strategy for all audiences (customers, investors, employees, key stakeholders).* Develop and implement communications initiatives that promote Maxar''s innovation and track record of performance in space to existing and potential customers.* Maintain an editorial calendar of activities in the company''s space business and produce timely press releases, blogs, and social media content.* Develop thought leadership platform and pursue opportunities to showcase the GM of Space and other Space leaders and subject matter experts in the press and industry associations.* Prepare members of the space organization for interviews with media training, talking points, mock interviews.* Facilitate media interview and speaking engagements with Maxar''s space thought leaders.* Partner with PR agency to proactively engage industry, tech, business, and trade media to generate news coverage for the company''s technology, products, programs, and people.* Design & track external communications performance metrics. Internal * Ensure organizational and strategic initiatives are successfully communicated to Space employees and stakeholders.* Plan and develop content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as the intranet, employee emails, videos, and blog.* Support Space leadership and company meetings with messaging, presentation development, speaker selection and logistics.* Mine the Space organization for stories that highlight employee contributions to Maxar''s technology leadership, customer missions, and community engagement, with an eye for repurposing content for external audiences.* Design and implement employee feedback mechanisms. Minimum Requirements: * Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain secret level government security clearance* Bachelor''s degree in journalism, communications or related field.* Minimum of 9 years of professional experience, primarily in corporate communications, internal communications, media, public relations, or related fields.* Space, aerospace, or defense background required.* Ability to travel 1-2 times per month to our Palo Alto, CA office Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working with executive and senior leadership to craft successful communications strategies.* Security clearance preferred.* Extensive writing and editing experience with an uncompromising eye for quality and clarity, applying appropriate tone, detail and message elevation for each audience.* Outstanding project management skills; ability to organize a busy workload and meet aggressive deadlines.* Good judgment, personal accountability, high integrity.* Excel at storytelling and have the ability to craft narratives that tie together corporate strategic objectives, brand promise, and employee experience.* Comfortable working with executives and in a cross-functional, matrixed organization.
