We are looking for an Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Discipline Lead, to support our growth within the Industrial Water Sector at StantecDiscipline Leaders hold a unique position in our water group, their role is to guide our engineering disciplines in the advancement of skills, innovation, and quality as it relates to the delivery of our work. They facilitate our communities of global and national level engineering discipline leads ensuring workflows leverage the right level of expertise and always mitigate risk. The management and governance of engineering technical data and standards is at the core of the role, always fostering a culture of quality.The Industrial I&C discipline leader oversees industrial instrumentation, controls and automation engineering and associated services. For the Industrial Water Sector. The Discipline seeks to intelligently utilize natural processes to solve complex problems facing the communities we serve.The Industrial I&C discipline supports the Industrial Water Sector (practice and delivery) by providing technical leadership and specialized project delivery services related to the evaluation, planning, design, construction and management of I&C systems, including:Automation component specification,Programmable Logic/Automation Controller and Distributed Control System design,Experience with major DCSs, Ovation, ABB, Foxboro, EtcCommunications and network planning and specification,Process control narratives and strategies, andEnterprise systems recommendations.Control Narratives and logic diagramsI&C construction plans and specificationsThe market focus for the Industrial I&C discipline is primarily private sector and industrial clients. The industrial I&C Water Delivery Group also supports other business lines, principally, manufacturing, power, oil and gas.Your Key Responsibilities:The I&C Technical Leader implements the vision for Industrial Water Sector and works collaboratively with the Sector Leaders and the Water Delivery Group Technical Staff in identifying allocating the right resources, mapping teams to appropriate skills and advancement and delivering projects.The Technical Lead''s responsibilities include but not limited to:Oversee and manage the development of plans and specifications to support purchase and installation of control systems and field instrumentationManage and control quality for the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.Participates in multi-discipline coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.Performs calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software such as ETAP.Participates in constructability reviews.Maintain a high level of quality on all documents producedWorks on multiple projects.Quality & innovation:Set and provide oversight of discipline-specific professional standards and quality assurance practices for deliverables management.Monitor compliance with our independent and peer reviewer design delivery frameworks to ensure the discipline-specific resources are allocated early on in pursuit and project planning and scoping and hold appropriate levels of expertise.Control the suite of applications used by the discipline (e.g. design tools, software applications) and co-ordinate advancement and learning around the futureproofing of the engineering teams as they pursue Digital (BIM enabled) Delivery.Reviews, approves, and drives compliance with standard processes for delivering engineering design work.Identify opportunities to differentiate the Industrial I&C discipline group through showcasing advancement.Control the collation of Intellectual Property data and the implementation of a comprehensive knowledge sharing platform.Facilitate the capture and communication of lessons learned at project close out or through project feedback.Maintain best practice guides and has overall responsibility for development of centralized resources for standards (guide specifications and standard details) as they apply to the discipline-specific engineering group.Coordinate software disciplines-specific software licensing in collaboration with IT and with partner business lines (where applicable).Project Management & Execution :Execute projects as either a discipline lead, Project Technical Lead, Project Manager and/or in a senior technical capacity on significant projects in the region, or corporately.Collaborate with other Regions to promote work sharing and the import and export of personnel as required to successfully deliver projects throughout the business.Ensure participation in project risk scoping and appropriate ownership of technical lessons learnt at project close out.Delegate tasks under the Technical Leads responsibility to staff qualified to assist completion of these efforts.Health & Safety:Organize technical learning as it relates to Stantecs Health and Safety Framework and instill a culture of delivery efficiency through the application of the framework. Support Stantec policies regarding health, safety, and environmental compliance.People Management:Maintain a culture of learning and collaboration across the Industrial I&C discipline group in a drive for quality and consistency across the engineering pool.Actively maintain internal and external networks to provide mentoring and coaching opportunities for team members.Your Capabilities and CredentialsMust have 10 yrs. plus, experience in heavy industrial and utility capital project engineeringGeneral understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.Knowledge of means and methods, materials, and industry standards.Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.Advanced oral and written communication skills.Presentation and interview skills are preferred.Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceThe successful candidate will possess the following:A skill set that positions them at the highest technical level of their engineering field.A masters degree in science or engineering is strongly recommended, however a bachelors degree may be sufficient should the candidate possess a strong skill set and appropriate professional accreditation (PE., or P.Eng.).Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with a background in engineering consulting, preferably in the Industrial Water Sector, however experience with Power, Oil & Gas, and other industrial sector clients will also be considered.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
