Description of WorkThis position will be advertised until filledAs of June 1, 2022, the new salary will be based on the new/pay grade MH18. New recruitment range effective 6/1/2022 will be$65,066 minimum to $75,000 maximum.The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) is a state school serving the 54 easternmost counties that provides a specialized learning environment for deaf and hard of hearing students, kindergarten through 12th grade, following a typical school calendar. The ENCSD offers students an academic setting with standards-based instruction, low classroom ratios, career and vocational skills development, current technology, and an overall accessible environment for learning through American Sign Language. A boarding program is available for enrolled students residing outside of Wilson County. The ENCSD seeks to promote both intentional and experiential learning to provide continued advancement in student academic achievement and social/emotional well-being.The School has an immediate opening for a Nurse Supervisor I, working title: Student Health Center Director. This position provides direction and supervision of all activities related to nursing services at ENCSD. These services include clinical, financial, and human resource management of the Student Health Center. This position has responsibility for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the quality of nursing care delivered throughout school campus.The Student Health Center Director is responsible for administrative duties, overseeing the daily operations of the Student Health Center, ENCSD In-Service Program (coordinating education on health needs to students and staff) which includes the school''s Exposure Control Plan, Blood borne Pathogens Training, Diabetes Training and New Hire Orientation. Other assigned campus responsibilities such as conducting Annual Usher Screenings for students age 12 and older, and ensuring team members are properly trained and participating in school wide wellness initiatives. This nursing supervisory position must function at the Contributing Level.This is a 12-month position that works Monday - Friday 1st (Day Shift)at Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf located in Wilson, NC. This position also serves on the Director''s Leadership Team.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesTechnical - Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory, techniques, practices and procedures, medical terminology, disease processes and body systems, current clinical diagnostic procedures and treatments and skills in applying this knowledge, and the clinical competencies necessary to provide care to assigned patients. General knowledge of local, state and federal regulations governing health care practices and of standards of accrediting bodies, including those specific to School Health. Basic knowledge of good supervisory practices and skill in supervising others, including communication skills (listening, asking questions and giving feedback), how to delegate and assign duties to non-licensed and licensed nursing staff which is within their scope of practice, giving clear, understandable instructions, how to deal effectively with difficult employees, how to evaluate performance and to participate in disciplinary actions. Knowledge of state government''s HR interview policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of staffing standards for shift on applicable unit(s).Critical Thinking - Ability to implement the nursing process (assess, plan, implement and evaluate) to meet patient needs as it relates to patient care and to staff assignment and delegation with some supervision from a higher management level. This includes ability to establish expectations and clear directions for staff to meet the goals and objectives of the work unit. Ability to base judgments on facts and reasoning. Ability to be open-minded, organized and systematic, and inquisitive. Ability to be reflective and self-monitoring. Ability to be creative. Ability to demonstrate discernment of patient complaints and employee issues. Ability to identify current problems, report potential problems, and assess the medical appropriateness, quality, and necessity of care given. Ability to determine if delivery of service complies with local, state and federal regulations and standards of accrediting bodies.Consulting/Advising - Ability to lead employees by demonstrating a professional, caring approach, by listening, being accepting and leading by example towards common, short-term operational goals and objectives of the unit.Client/Customer Service - Ability to advise and counsel employees on job performance and conduct. Ability to develop plans for employees to gain necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform their munication - Ability to listen, ask questions and give feedback to employees. Ability to give clear and concise instructions. Ability to develop and maintain effective communication and work relationships with Physicians, upper management healthcare personnel, patients, families, agencies and others.Supervision - Ability to assess employee competencies and conduct/participate in performance management reviews. Ability to actively seek to coach and mentor staff. Ability to support professional development of nursing staff. Ability to delegate and assign tasks. Ability to promote communication.
