Supplemental InformationLSUHealth New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Operating Engineer Master. There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $19.79 per hour and up to $21.30 per hour depending on experience and qualifications for this title.Preference will be given to applicants who possess a 1st class Stationary Engineer''s Certificate for steam boilers and at minimum a 2nd class Stationary Engineer''s Certificate for air conditioning.Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays.* This is a Civil Service Position. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Three years of experience in the operation, repair and/or maintenance of large commercial or industrial type stationary engines or mechanical equipment such as air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, pumping, generating, chillers, or closely related systems.SUBSTITUTIONS:Training in commercial air conditioning, refrigeration or diesel mechanics will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.NOTE:Incidental duties in operating or maintaining one''s own heating, air conditioning or related equipment will not be considered as qualifying experience.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:For those positions in which incumbents will be working with and handling refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians will be required (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).NOTE:Additional information regarding technician certification requirements and programs may be obtained by calling the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Hotline at (800) 296-1996 (10am-4pm Eastern Time, Monday-Friday except federal holidays) or by visiting the EPA''s Stratospheric Ozone Depletion Web Site atConceptsFunction of Work:To serve as the sole operator on an assigned shift, to serve as lead-worker over Operating Engineers, to provide direct-line supervision to one Operating Engineer position, or to serve in a large institution with at least 100 buildings or more that has a computer operated centralized energy management system that includes: chillers that handle 11,000 tons or more of chilled water with a total of 4,500 horsepower or more and boilers having 50 tons or more steam capacity and a total of 5,000 horsepower or more.Level of Work:Advanced.Supervision Received:General from a higher-level Operating Engineer or agency official.Supervision Exercised:May serve as a lead-worker over subordinate Operating Engineers or provide direct-line supervision over one Operating Engineer.Location of Work:All state agencies.Job Distinctions:Differs from the Operating Engineer 2 by the presence of responsibility for serving as the sole operator on an assigned shift, for serving as lead-worker over Operating Engineers, providing direct-line supervision to one Operating Engineer position, or serving in a large institution with at least 100 buildings or more that has a computer operated centralized energy management system that includes: chillers that handle 11,000 tons or more of chilled water with a total of 4,500 horsepower or more and boilers having 50 tons or more steam capacity and a total of 5,000 horsepower or more.Differs from the Operating Engineer-Cogeneration by the absence of responsibility for regulating, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of a combined heat and power generation facility.Examples of WorkServes as sole operator on an assigned shift.Serves as lead-worker over subordinate Operating Engineers.Serves as Operating Engineer in a large institution having at least 100 buildings or more that has a computer operated, centralized energy management system that includes: chillers that handle 11,000 tons or more of chilled water with a total of 4,500 horsepower or more and boilers having 50 tons or more steam capacity and a total of 5,000 horsepower or more.Operates, monitors, and controls system wide output utilizing a computerized energy management system.Keeps operating log sheets.Operates auxiliaries that include firing up steam generators and starting and stopping chillers, pumps, and cooling towers.Read gauges to check water levels, steam pressure, and operation of valves and auxiliary pumps.Performs preventive maintenance work on boilers and related equipment such as: ventilation and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning machinery, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors.Performs related duties as required.
