Supplemental InformationThe Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program is a unique, complex, multi-year program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Louisiana''s Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON).Essential to the effectiveness of the National Estuary Program is the significant participation of other state and federal agencies, local governments, university scientists, educators, and other citizens and stakeholders of the Barataria-Terrebonne estuarine complex.During its initial five years, the program was tasked with developing a comprehensive regional restoration plan, the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP), to address environmental issues. In 1996, the CCMP was formally approved by the State of Louisiana and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Since 1996, the program has been coordinating the implementation of the 51 Action Plans of the CCMP with many different stakeholders.To be effective, BTNEP personnel require a unique blend of talents and training. Each staff member is expected to serve as a central coordinator for the area of responsibility suggested by his or her particular job title. As coordinators of these various program activities within the National Estuary, BTNEP personnel must have the following attributes:* Be knowledgeable on a broad range of topics,* Have in-depth knowledge of their specific area of responsibility,* Have an awareness of the activities and positions of other agencies and groups related to their assigned responsibilities with the BTNEP,* Be effective at facilitating groups of scientists, educators, resource managers, and public representatives, and* Possess an ability to guide these groups to consensus-based decisions.BTNEP personnel must have strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of awareness and knowledge related to the responsibilities and position assigned by the Program Director.Location:The position will be based at theBarataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP)on the campus of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA.Application:The application must include a cover letter and resume.For additional information regarding this announcement, please contact Nicole Babin via [Click Here to Email Your Resumé]. QualificationsQualifications:We seek an individual with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the communications field and extensive experience in social media platform management. This individual must be comfortable with public speaking, engaging the public, and traveling to sites within the estuary as needed or directed.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills* Previous experience in the marketing and/or communications field* Previous experience with photography and video* A willingness to work in a collaborative and team environment* Experience or a willingness to speak in public and to engage with the public* Previous experience with event planning and logistics* Desired but not required: previous environmental or scientific background, ability to be on-site for field research* Extensive experience in using social media as a public outreach toolEducation:A bachelor''s degree or higher in journalism Examples of WorkIn this role, you will be expected to:* Write press releases* Develop and design social media content* Develop collateral general informational and engaging content to distribute throughout the estuary - in both print and online formats* Take photos and video for BTNEP''s use -equipment will be provided to you.This individual will also be tasked with developing BTNEP''s strategic public outreach plans, including volunteer recruitment and enhancing public education events.The responsibilities of the Communication & Outreach include the following:* Manage BTNEP''s public-facing platforms such as social media, outgoing and ingoing press and publications, email* Conduct public outreach within the community through events, presentations, educational programs, and speaking opportunities* Assist in the planning and leading of existing volunteer and member events such as clean-ups, restoration projects, and paddle trips; as well as strategizing how BTNEP can further engage with new and existing volunteers and members* Assist in the writing and producing engaging content to distribute throughout the estuary and beyond in hopes of public education, engagement, and beneficial behavioral change. This will include capturing content via photo and video.
