The Computational Oncology and Cell Therapy group within the Precision & Translational Medicine (PTM) function in the Oncology and Cell Therapy Therapeutic Area Unit (OCTAU) at Takeda has the accountability for driving end-to-end computational innovation and excellence from discovery through development, launch, and beyond as needed to advance our pipeline to patients in need.The Computational Oncology & Cell Therapy team consists of talented computational biologists who derive actionable scientific insights from large, diverse, and complex biological datasets including clinical trials and external datasets. They partner closely with the enterprise in PTM, Oncology Discovery, Cell Therapy Discovery, the Data Sciences Institute (incl Statistics, Global Evidence and Outcomes, Data Architecture), Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Sciences, Cell Therapy Product Engine, as well as with the other computational functions at Takeda as needed to guide robust drug target identification and validation, proof-of-concept in the clinic, pharmacodynamic and predictive markers to inform data driven decisions and propose actionable solutions to be tested in the laboratory and/or the clinic to identify and progress our innovative cancer therapies.We are looking for an experienced computational biologist to join our team to lead our efforts to integrate, analyze and interpret multi-modal data for development of cancer therapeutics. The candidate will be expected to contribute to our mission to provide innovative cancer therapies to patients across our pipeline of novel immuno-oncology therapeutics. The candidate will have a strong background and understanding of cancer biology (with a focus on immunology, oncology, or immuno-oncology) and have the ability to apply modern computational biology approaches to provide scientific insights. The candidate will be influential across the entire drug discovery spectrum, contributing to projects moving from target identification and validation through early clinical proof of concept, providing translational hypotheses and predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers to inform early clinical development strategies.ACCOUNTABILITIES: Works with functional and program leadership to develop and implement a computational biology roadmap and strategies.Visualize and interpret data types including genomics, transcriptomics, single cell sequencing, proteomics, and other high-dimensional datasets.Performs integrative analyses to deduce, summarize and communicate results contributing to the understanding of drug indication, mechanism of action, identification of response predictors and translational biomarkers.Establishes a collaborative and influential role within biology-oriented project teams by working through the spectrum of experimental study design, assay selection, analysis, data integration and data interpretation.Works collaboratively with data scientists and data engineering groups to enhance our computational infrastructure, user interface, data storage, query and visualization capabilities.Prepares and presents comprehensive technical or project reports to a full range of internal and external audiences.Conducts scientific presentations to internal audiences and to external partnerships as indicated by projects and working with program leadership.Are you looking for a patient-focused, innovation-driven company that will inspire you and empower you to shine?At Takeda, we are transforming the pharmaceutical industry through our R&D-driven market leadership and being a values-led company. We foster an inclusive, collaborative workplace, in which our global teams are united by an unwavering commitment to deliver Better Health and a Brighter Future to people around the world.Here, you will be a vital contributor to our inspiring, bold mission.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science, or similar discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience in immuno-oncology research and translation or M.S. with 8+ years of experience or B.S. with 10+ years of experience.Oncology and/or Immunology experience prehensive knowledge of Immuno-Oncology and/or Cell Therapy a plus.Extensive experience in computational biology demonstrated by a strong publication record.Experience in drug discovery and development and in applying computational approaches to advance and accelerate programs.Experience with the analysis of clinical, genomics (including gene expression signatures) and flow cytometry datasets.Good working knowledge of statistics and ability to effectively partner with statistical experts in the analysis of complex clinical datasets.Experience developing and testing/confirming predictive biomarker and pharmacodynamic hypotheses in complex diseases.Experience working in a matrixed R&D environment to deliver impactful results. Well-developed knowledge of key R&D disciplines and functions and how they partner together. Extensive experience working closely with biologists and clinicians to influence experimental design and early clinical development strategies. Have strong scientific understanding of molecular biology and genomics. Prior experience with immuno-oncology, oncology or immunology is preferred but not required.SKILLSBe experienced with genome scale analysis including some of the following: RNA-SEQ, DNA-SEQ, miRNA, copy number, epigenetics, and single cell sequencing.Extensive experience with data mining, text mining, systems biology, and the development of data visualization solutions that may not already exist.Excellent programming knowledge and experience including cloud computing and command line expertise; R, SQL, Perl, Python.
