Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, FirstEnergy includes one of the nation''s largest investor-owned electric systems, more than 24,000 miles of transmission lines that connect the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, and a regulated generating fleet with a total capacity of more than 3,500 megawatts.About the OpportunityThis is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co.,a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.Responsibilities:* Work independently and make sound decisions regarding all aspects of regional distribution system operations.* Monitor the day-to-day operations of the regional distribution system.* Outage restoration during emergency or abnormal conditions with timely and accurate documentation associated with the distribution system.* Demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of safety, including adherence to the Accident Prevention Handbook (APH) and Manual of Operations (MOP).* Produce operational improvements and communicate system events to appropriate personnel.* Demonstrate sound internal and external customer service.* Operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Distribution Management System (DMS), Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (GIS) computer system, advanced distribution management system (ADMS), Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Personnel Call-out System (ARCOS), DCC Notification System, as well as radio and telephone systems.* Analyze and act promptly in cases of system disturbance so that the system can be restored to a normal configuration.* Provide technical analysis, monitor systems, schedule and/or authorize FirstEnergy distribution equipment outages and load transfers.* Develop detailed scenarios to identify operating problems caused by contingency outages.* Assign and direct switching activities and work assignments to field personnel.* Actively seek ways to build, challenge, and add value within scope of assignments.* Monitor system and weather conditions.* Coordinating staffing requirements by calling additional resources to manage emergencies.* Possess basic understanding of Bargaining Unit Agreements with field labor.Business-Unit Specific Summary of Responsibilities:Toledo Edison Regional Distribution System Operator responsibilities may include one or more of the following:* Work a regular rotating shift schedule as a Duty Desk operator.* Temporary Mentoring assignment.* Temporary assignment to the Set-Up Desk/Outage Coordinator position.* Operate the Downtown Network System (High Voltage and Low Voltage).* Routine audit and updates to System Inoperable Equipment Log entries.Qualifications:* Must have successfully completed a DSO-Trainee training program at a FirstEnergy DCC. OR Must possess an Associate''s degree or greater in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, or related certification from an accredited institution together with 2-4 years demonstrated ability and working experience as a Distribution System Operator. Demonstrated ability and working experience as a Distribution System Operator (minimum 4-7 years) will be considered, in lieu of above stated educational requirements.* Must have previously passed the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatching Test (SOPD or SO/PD II).* Must live within 45 minutes commute time.* Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including Holidays and be available for overtime work when needed.* Must have demonstrated strong performance in problem solving, multi-tasking, and teamwork, as well as demonstrated effective performance in prioritizing work for efficient and safe operations.* Must have an understanding of Transmission and Distribution operation, maintenance and construction practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools to operate the distribution system.* Must possess reading and comprehension skills to effectively interpret switching requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals, standards and procedures used to develop distribution switching orders.* Must have an in-depth understanding of, collection, organization, and analysis of information from a variety of sources to develop switching orders and recommendations.* Must possess highly effective oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, peers, employees, and contractors involved with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the T&D facilities.* Must demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships.* Must have demonstrated independent judgment on moderately complex projects and assignments.* Must possess excellent interpersonal and analytical skills to make quick assessments and deliver well-thought decisions, when situations occur that require independent judgment.* Must possess in-depth understanding of specific mainframe and PC applications.* Must possess the ability to remain professional in high stress, high volume work environment.* Must have the desire to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, deliver results and manage others.* Must deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines, and coach others in effective decision making.Benefits, Compensation & Workforce DiversityAt FirstEnergy, employees are key to our success.
