Job DescriptionResponsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services. Responsible for actively participating in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and interface with suppliers or internal stakeholders. The work is of a complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and a high level of independent judgmentHybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee''s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.Responsibilities:* This role requires an experienced or non-experienced buyer to drive a multi-functional international team including collaboration.* Experience with commodities (metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, paint, electronics, etc.) is preferred* Experience handling commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance* Proven competence in negotiating skills* Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills* High level of analytical ability where problems can be somewhat complex & with international/JV partner involvement* Developed organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines* Proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & SAAdditional Job DescriptionRequired Qualifications:* A minimum of 3 years relevant experience* Bachelor''s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related degree/experiencePreferred Qualifications:* Automotive industry experience* Knowledge of materials management* Capable of interpreting changing market data* Able to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents* Solid knowledge of contract law as well as GM terms & conditions and its applications regarding purchasing processes* Ability to work with multiple JV partners, globally, independently, and self-directed* Ability to travel at least 5% of time, including international travelCandidates must demonstrate the following required proficiencies:* Negotiation* Communication* Analytical Thinking* Workload Management* Relationship Management* Vendor/Supplier Management* Data JudgmentFOR GM INTERNAL CANDIDATES: This role is posted at both the 6th and 7th level within the GPSC organization.
