DescriptionProvidence is calling a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) (Full-Time/Night Shift) at Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital in San Pedro, CA.Apply today! This individual will perform these functions according to established hospital standards of nursing care, standards of nursing practice and within the Vocational Nurse Practice Act. Respond appropriately to patients and families with knowledge of age-specific needs based on scope of service of unit/department where this position you will:Administer medications including controlled substances within scope of licenseStart and add IV fluids in accordance with hospital policies and procedures and Vocational Nurse Practice ActDiscontinue peripheral IVs and PRN adaptersAssist with patient admission/transfer, to include room set-up, orientation of patient to environment, personal effects labeling and storingProvide patient/family education related to self-care and supporting the Plan of CareAssist with patient discharge related to self-care and supporting the Plan of CareProvide direct patient care in a safe and caring manner, as delegated by the Patient Care Leader (RN):Perform data collection through physical observation to include auscultation, palpation and percussion and basic mental status assessment to include observation of general behavior, appearance and attitude, collection of data relative to sensorium or orientation to time, person and place, and assessment of recall abilityPlace, change and remove complex and simple dressingsInsert/remove foley catheters. Observe and supervise patients with incentive spirometryApply low flow O2 therapy and simple maskInsert nasogastric tube assessing for correct placementPerform tracheal suctioning and routine tracheostomy careOperate/administer meter dose inhalersInitiate tube feedings as directed by the R.N.Take and record vital signs, weight, etc., as assignedPerform/record point of care testsCollect, accurately label, record phlebotomy specimens according to established protocolsApply, change, remove external cathetersPerform pre-surgical preps as needed (i.e. shave)Ambulate, re-positions patient and performs ROMApply changes and remove patient restraints according to established policyApply K-pads, cold packs and hyper/hypothermic blanketsEmpty and accurately records fluid collection devicesPerform EKGsPerform tray/supply set-up for a bedside procedurePerform monitoring activities, reports, documents (i.e. dynamap, pulse ox, fetal and telemetry)Provide post-mortem careAssist in complex feeds utilizing approved practicesAssist in IV set-up (gathering supplies, pump, etc.)Assist with orthopedic equipment/applications as directedProvide personal hygiene carePerform transportation of patients, lifting support as assignedManage CPM deviceCheck patients ID band every shiftLeadership and Supervision:Act as a team problem solver by being an active member of unit/staff meetings and other committeesAssist with the orientation and on-the-job training of new hiresPerform within own legal scope of practiceDocumentation/Information Management:Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital related informationDemonstrate competency/working knowledge of Hospital Information SystemPerform documentation on unit records and in patients record, which is timely, accurate, and conciseUtilize and document on patient data base and other computer based communication and patient monitoring systems (e.g. EKG, Pulse Oximeter, hemodynamic monitoring)Communicate patient information/changes to RN and to physician when appropriateTake verbal/telephone orders from physician according to hospital policy and procedureEnter and verify MD orders accuratelyObtain results on diagnostic data in a timely manner and communicate and files appropriatelyEnter requisitions in a timely mannerPerformance Improvement/Quality and Safety:Actively participate in performance improvement activities and works to correct deficiencies identifiedActively support the facility with regards to continuous compliance with all regulatory and performance improvement standards including, but not limited to JCAHO, Department of Health Services, CMS Core Measures, IHI initiatives, etcMaintain current knowledge regarding JCAHO standards for this positionCommit to and actively participates in ongoing complianceHave knowledge of Tracer methodologyProvide the best care and service to every person, every time (PHS Quality Vision)Provide care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient/family centered (PHS Quality definition)Required qualifications for this position includes:Completion of program for Licensed Vocational NurseCurrent Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure for the State of CaliforniaSatisfactory completion of BLSAble to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated tasksAble to accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasksAble to organize and prioritize work to complete assignments in a timely mannerAble to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families and co-workersDemonstrate competency in medication administrationPreferred qualifications for this position include:Successful completion of course in Intravenous Therapy approved by the LVN BoardHospital direct patient care experience on an acute, sub-acute unit or skilled nursing facilityOne (1) plus years of acute care institutional experienceAbout the hospital you will serveProvidence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro is a 259-bed nonprofit hospital that has served the Harbor and greater South Bay communities since 1925.
