Sr. Mechanical Engineer, HydrogenStatus: Exempt (salaried)Department: HydrogenPosition SummaryThe Senior Mechanical Engineer, Hydrogen, is a vital team member to support activities related to developing and continual operation of Plug Power''s H2 infrastructure. The H2 Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the specification, analysis, testing, and integration of mechanical and electromechanical components used in hydrogen infrastructure systems. These components include pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, valves, instrumentation, piping, and fittings. This position also provides expertise related to system design, mechanical assemblies, development of drawings, system troubleshooting, documentation, and more. In addition, the H2 Mechanical Engineer must be a skilled collaborator who can engage cross-functionally with various team members to align efforts and synergize work activities affecting H2 infrastructure. This position is critical to ensuring optimal H2 infrastructure systems deployment to our highly valued customers.Core Duties and Responsibilities* Work to thoroughly understand Plug Power''s Hydrogen fueling system projects, including but not limited to: customer site requirements, usage parameters, troubleshooting history, design limitations, and optimal system performance targets* Provide appropriate solutions by evaluating and analyzing all Plug''s requirements and design all piping specifications, isometrics, stress analysis, etc.* Interpret all codes and maintain the overall performance of all piping activities.* Prepare all installation and selection documents for mechanical equipment.* Collaborate with a team of designers to complete mechanical projects and provide engineering support.* Analyze all mechanical designs and prepare various concepts for piping designs and develop required mechanical drawings.* Provide support to all purchase activities and evaluate all vendor submittals.* Manage the engineering change control process for H2 infrastructure designs, documents, and Bills of Material (BOMs) as required.* Build relationships and regular communications with cross-functional colleagues in field service, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality departments.* Analyze and test components used in H2 infrastructure design; document findings and provide suggestions for system refinement and improvements.* Lead efforts to integrate components into H2 infrastructure design; partner cross-functionally to ensure seamless communication and execution.* Learn and apply other country code standards, including, but not limited to Europe, South Korea, Australia, etc.* Assist with troubleshooting as needed to maintain system uptime for customers.* Read and interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) as necessary.* Collaborate with internal project teams for hydrogen deployments, such as safety studies.* Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions.* Perform all other duties as assigned.Education and Experience* Minimum of a Bachelor''s degree, (Masters'' preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.* Minimum of eight (8) years of design experience creating construction documents for industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage facilities with significant expertise in more than one of the core industries served by our client.* Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving PFD''s, P&ID''s, piping orthographic and isometric drawings, bill of materials, equipment, and piping specifications.* Working knowledge of control valve and flow meter sizing and selection and approval* Working knowledge of process controls* Thorough understanding of piping flexibility, stress analysis and pipe supports* Working knowledge of Ceaser Pipe Stress Analysis software* Working knowledge of ASME BPVC, Division 1* Working knowledge of API standards - 520, 521,* Experienced working knowledge of piping codes - ASME B31.1, B31.3, PED* Working knowledge of NFPA fire codes (NFPA 1, 2, 56)* Working Knowledge of ASCE 7* Working knowledge of pressure drop calculations for incompressible and compressible fluids* Reviewer and approver of equipment and piping specifications, pressure relief device sizing, pump, and other process equipment selections* Working knowledge of cryogenic processes is a plus* Ability to travel as needed to domestic or internationally, to customer sites for infrastructure project work; approximately 10% to 20% of the time* Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, AutoCAD* Strong verbal and written communication skills* Uncompromising dedication to quality* Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail* Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively* Professional Engineer preferredPlug Power Inc. is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
