Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Series Definition: This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR Education and Training: For positions at GS-3 (or equivalent): Successful completion of 1 year of post secondary study that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. For positions at GS-4 (or equivalent): Successful completion of 2 years of post secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 ( or equivalent). At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization. For positions at GS-5 (or equivalent): Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor''s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent). At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has be designated by a drafting area of specialization. Certification: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician''s quality of experience. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-05 - Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in the installation of septic systems and drilling of water wells; or basic AutoCAD,Civil3D or higher and personal computer software, i.e., Microsoft Office; minimal operating experience with DPS survey equipment; or electronic total station equipment including electronic data collectors and surveying software. Work with construction plans and specifications. 3 OR Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor''s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate filed of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of course such as such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. GS-06 - Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience supervising construction crews; or substantial knowledge of and demonstrated independent work experience in the area of drafting; or competence with computer aided drafting software, i.e., AutoCAD, Civil3D and personal computer software, i.e., Microsoft Office. Work with construction plans and specifications. GS-07 - Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Licensed experience as septic system designer nd/or water well drilling operator; or substantial knowledge of and demonstrated independent work experience in the areas of drafting and surveying, competence with computer aided drafting software, i.e., AutoCAD, Civil3D and personal computer software, i.e., Microsoft Office; or skill and demonstrated experience with GPS survey equipment, electronic total station equipment, electronic data collectors and surveying software; OR Successfully completed one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician such as, engineering, construction, industrial technology. OR A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
