As a System Software Safety Engineer at Blue Origin, you will support the development of safe software for spacecraft, facilities, and supporting systems. You will help maintain safety and process assurance objectives for software; work with engineers to identify and verify compliance with safety requirements; review and approve safety analyses that support requirements identification, validation, and verification; audit program compliance to safety and assurance objectives; review and approve safety requirements; review the risk characterization of open problems and safety risks; perform compliance assessment of our system safety processes and products against safety standards including (not inclusive) Range Safety, NASA standards, FAA Part 450.141, and RTCA DO-178C; generate metrics and report on program system safety status; and participate in actively maintaining a healthy system safety culture.If you enjoy being challenged, working on multiple aspects of large systems, and using all the tools in your belt to tackle real problems limiting access to human spaceflight, come join us. Passion for our mission and vision is required!Qualifications:Minimum of a B.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace engineering or related technical discipline5+ years proven engineering experience in the commercial space, aviation, or other safety industry with software certification or software system safety, with 2+ of those years performing compliance audits OR developing plans to one or more complex electronic hardware or software safety standards (e.g. IEC 61508, ISO 26262, RTCA-D0-254, RTCA/DO-178C, MIL-STD-882, STAMP, NASA or ESA standards, etc.)Strong system safety and mission assurance fundamentalsExperience complying with regulatory requirements and guidanceAbility to identify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actionsExperience with some of the lifecycle development of aerospace systems (requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and/or operation)Demonstrated ability to generate metrics and report on program system safety statusStrong safety and mission assurance fundamentalsExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical partnersAbility to form relationships with experts from varying engineering fields and provide constructive feedback about safety and reliability concernsAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environmentMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Desired:M.S. or PhD in computer science, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering or related fieldExperience assessing compliance to regulatory requirements and guidance.Proven experience with integrated modular avionicsExperience with object-oriented software development and model-based engineeringExperience in the academic arena with the foundations of software system safetyExperience with the STPA safety processRelevant experience with software and/or control systemsExperience with software requirement engineeringExperience with software test planningExperience with software test procedure and test cases developmentExperience with formal qualification testing Experience with software test automationHighly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices in mission/safety critical systemsKnowledge of fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission critical systemsKnowledge of autonomous system design, analysis, and testExperience supporting trade studiesExperience with requirements development/management tools; DOORS, DOORS Next Gen and lifecycle management (PLM) and/or data, WindchillExperience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRADemonstrated experience with MATLAB and Simulink and auto-coding methodsExperience developing software in C / C++ and PythonHands-on experience with embedded software testing, test development, and certificationExperience with aerospace vehicles and model-based design (MBD) methodologies leading to certification of human spaceflight systemsStrong understanding of aerospace safety-critical systems developmentITAR RequirementsTo conform to U.S. Government commercial space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawfully admitted for permanent residence into the U.S. (i.e. current green card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1157-1158.
