Consults on product quality issues and sets objectives for error and escape reductions. Enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Responsibilities:* Manage all engineering activities within a department including design, development, production, and testing.* Manage and drive all necessary actions for obtaining and maintaining appropriate product certifications needed for industrial purposes. Establish firm expectations for the team and provide leadership in managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.* Drive execution of Value Engineering programs to meet schedule B and C savings.* Drive sound engineering principles and practice to perform tasks relating to the design, analysis, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of mechanical parts, pressure vessels, valves, and various electro-mechanical systems.* Contributes to the development of standard work to improve department efficiency and effectiveness, as well as the creation of design guidelines.* Ensures the timely and accurate execution of engineering change orders. Interacts with various agencies and agency-related issues pertaining to the new product, cost reduction, and sustaining engineering activities.* Participates in DFMEA efforts on new product development activities as well as new designs that materialize due to introduction of new products, supplier issues, production issues, other brainstorming sessions, and sustaining activities.* Lead new product development tasks cost reduction projects and sustaining projects in a supportive team environment.* Develop, coach, mentor, and manage staff.* Establish goals and objectives and develop measurable metrics to gauge achievement against goals.* Provide expertise and ongoing communication to Engineering, Quality, Product Safety, Product Management, Sales, Operations, and Business Unit Leadership, in support of Business Unit and Company goals and objectives.* Interface with HRDC and Carrier Innovation and Technology group to identify and mature relevant technologies for product development.* Has responsibility for entire systems, projects, programs, or operational units across functional areas of the department.* Accountable for budget, staffing, and/or business/operational results* Travel requirements: 15%* Drive Product Safety and DFMEA throughout the productsEducation:* Bachelor''s degree in Engineering* A Master''s degree in Engineering preferred* MBA degree preferredPreferred Experience:* A minimum of five years of supervisory experience leading engineering and/or technical support teams.* Knowledge of Mechanical design, design evaluation rigor,* Demonstrated team leadership skills, able to organize and execute complex tasks, and communicate effectively in formal forums* Project management mindset with process rigor and discipline from previous work experiences.* Ideally, the incumbent will come from the fire industry or have supreme knowledge of the certification approval process for underwriters like FM, UL, NFPA, and others.* 0-4 years experience in mechanical design of pressurized equipment, valves, seals, etc. preferably in the fire protection industry.* Excellent oral and written communication skills.* Experience with test instruments and computer data acquisition.* Ability to create read and understand drawings and production process documentation.* Developed problem-solving skills and identification of potential problems to mitigate.Carrier is An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
