Associate Director, Clinical Nurse Ethics Job ID 236112 Location School of Medicine & Dentistry Full/Part Time Full-Time Favorite Job Regular/Temporary Regular OpeningFull Time 40 hours Grade 000 Health Humanities & BioethicsResponsibilitiesThe Department of Health Humanities & Bioethics (DHH&BE) at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the School of Nursing (URSMD) seeks to recruit an Associate Professor level faculty member for a new full-time, tenure track interprofessional bioethics position. This bioethics position is a joint appointment in the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing; it includes both clinical ethics work in the hospital and bioethics educational work with students in the schools of nursing and medicine.The Department of HH&BE cultivates humanistic, empathic, and ethically driven healthcare rooted in the biopsychosocial principles. Our faculty includes clinicians in nursing and medicine, scholars in philosophy, ethics, and other humanities and arts disciplines. We are committed to interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaborations in education, clinical work, scholarship/research, and community service.Candidates must have an excellent record of quality ethics teaching and scholarship, curriculum development, evidence of a strong scholarly career track, and significant experience in clinical ethics consultation. This position requires a doctoral degree relevant to clinical bioethics, nursing ethics, and medical ethics as well as evidence of substantial educational and clinical work related to moral distress in nursing. Certification as a healthcare ethics consultant is preferred. Significant clinical ethics experience with healthcare trainees across the learning continuum and in interprofessional settings is essential, with particular expertise in clinical ethics, organizational ethics, death and dying, and cultural issues relevant to healthcare. Given the interprofessional /interdisciplinary focus of this position in the Department of HHBE, a strong record of collaborations with diverse professional communities, including work in narratives and other humanities disciplines related to ethics is an asset. Experience in organizing and conducting scholarly conferences is an asset. We especially welcome faculty who bring an equity lens to their teaching.ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIESThe position at the includes A) a clinical component in Nursing Practice in Strong Memorial Hospital, B) an educational component in School of Nursing education for graduate students and C) an educational component in the School of Medicine and Dentistry.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Contribute to the ethics teaching and scholarship in SMD undergrad, graduate, and professional settings in collaboration with faculty in bioethics and in health humanitiesTeach a graduate course in the School of Nursing, Ethics and Public Policy in the Health Care System, for graduate students (3 semesters)Serve as a member of the clinical ethics consultation teamOrganize and manage the annual bioethics conferenceAttend monthly HHBE and SON faculty meetingsServe on URSMD and SON committees, as appropriateServe as Associate Director, Clinical Nurse EthicsOversee and facilitate nursing ethics activities, including needs assessments and evaluate quality and potential impact on patients, families, and nursing staffConduct ethics and moral distress debriefing for clinical staffServe on the SMH ethics consultation teamDevelop curricular material to promote nursing leadership in hospital ethics activitiesDevelop programs designed to ameliorate moral distress in nursingBuild interprofessional collaborations around moral issues inherent in patient careWork with colleagues in Nursing, Medicine, Hospital Administration, and other disciplines to develop and integrate programs that assure excellence in ethics educationFACULTY JOB DESCRIPTIONInterested individuals should apply on-line to Job posting 236112 at University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion.
