Job Description:Senior Accountant, M&A AccountingDeloitte Services LP includes internal support areas such as Sales Excellence, Marketing and Communications, Human Resources/Talent, Information Technology, Facilities Management, and Financial Support Services.Role DescriptionDeloitte''s Controllership function within its Finance & Administration organization provides stewardship over the US firms'' assets by monitoring business transactions and setting accounting policy that results in accurate and reliable financial statements. Controllership is a dynamic, highly-collaborative group focused on overseeing and supporting the financial health of the U.S. member firm and each of its functional subsidiaries.The Senior Accountant will bring an agile, innovative, and entrepreneurial mindset that will enable them to partner with the U.S. Firms'' Controller, Lead Controllers and Finance Business Partners in delivering exceptional Controllership services to the businesses, enabling areas (EA) and the overall firm for Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestitures. The Senior Accountant will ensure timely, accurate, and insightful financial information is provided to the respective Lead Controller, Finance Business Partners (FBPs) and business or EA leaders for any MA&D transactions. To accomplish this, the Senior Accountant will collaborate with Deloitte''s Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team, our Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Finance team, Corporate Development, Treasury, Global Finance Services (GFS), and other teams within the Accounting and Compliance organization.This role is expected to be a career level 4 role.Job ResponsibilitiesOrganizational and financial accounting activitiesAccounting Policy, Risk and ControlsCoordinate within the team to ensure MA&D controls are operating properly to maintain data integrity and financial information is reliableCritically review MA&D contracts to identify potential accounting issues, and research technical accounting positions in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)Work with business stakeholders, M&A Finance team, Corporate Development, Finance Business Partners to understand MA&D transactions and apply technical accounting to ensure record amounts and presentation are consistent with US GAAP and firm policiesPrepare journal entries and ensure transactions are consistent with policy and purchase price allocation is appropriately allocated for M&A transaction and gain/loss calculation is appropriate for any divestituresAssist in financial due diligence process and provide accounting insights to the M&A Finance team and Corporate DevelopmentCollaborate with the engaged Valuation specialist and coordinate with the M&A Finance team on valuation data requests and review of valuation report for the purchase price allocationAssist with drafting key accounting issues and conclusions in a memo for MA&D transactionsAssist in managing key control reviews, such as, quarterly or annual process to identify and assessment of intangible asset or goodwill impairment indicatorsFinancial Close and ReportingEnsure accurate and timely recording and financial reporting of MA&D transactions, joint ventures, and other wholly owned subsidiaries off ledgerReview periodic, quarterly and year-end close activities, including review of income statement and balance sheet for accuracy and policy compliance for both external reporting and internal management reporting related to MA&DWork collaboratively with FP&A, Corporate Development, M&A Finance team and business or EA stakeholders to review and take appropriate actions on all MA&D, joint venture accounting mattersPrepare MA&D reports as needed in support of understanding financial statements impact from MA&D transactionsReview the external financial reporting and internal management reporting of respective legal entities including their subsidiaries for completeness and accuracy of MA&DAssist in integration support for day 1 and day 2 of acquisitions or divestitures with the M&A Finance team, FP&A, Corporate Development or other key stakeholdersAssist in other Controllership activities, where applicableOperational ExcellenceIdentify opportunities for process improvement and digitization for increasing efficiency and value delivered to Lead Controllers and US Firms'' Controller and support execution of any resulting initiatives as applicableSet and monitor standards for the quality of deliverables/reports owned by their team and enable team to meet or exceed the standardsEnsure consistent financial reporting to enable better decisions by ManagementCollaborationDemonstrate strong interpersonal skills by developing relationships with business or EA leaders to serve as a trusted advisor who excels in both supporting the business or EA and enforcing policy decisions when requiredProvide transparency into critical decisions by engaging impacted stakeholders earlyInstill confidence in Controllership capabilities by demonstrating intricate knowledge of their respective business or EAEnsure stakeholders across FP&A, Corporate Development, M&A Finance team, GFS and other groups within the Accounting and Compliance organization are informed and engaged in the execution of an accurate and timely period Close, consistent enforcement of accounting policies, and identification and resolution of system issues affecting financial data accuracySupport the business COOs/CFOs, FBPs, Lead Controllers and US Firms'' Controllers in analyzing and reviewing the financials specifically related to MA&D transactionsTalentLeverage servicesBuild subject matter expertise and share with team members through formal (e.g. developing and deliver training) and informal avenuesQualificationsEducationBachelor''s degree in Accounting or related fieldCPA preferredExperience requirements3+ years of relevant technical accounting experience, preferably in a professional services firmUp-to-date technical knowledge of US GAAP accounting and/or hired to work in Colorado or Nevada, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of Colorado and the State of Nevada and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
