ResponsibilitiesWhat You''ll DoThe Charge Nurse-Operating Room has the leadership skills, authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. They are an extension of the leadership team (director, manager, nursing supervisor, clinical preceptor, and/or house supervisor) and must conduct themselves as such.The successful candidate will be able to:Assign suitable RN and Surgical Tech to surgical cases based on skill set with rationale to support assignment. Coordinate necessary breaks and meal times.Attend morning huddle to discuss day''s schedule and any special needs or instruction. Provide huddle information to staff arriving for later shifts. Provide a hand off to evening charge nurse.Oversee and facilitate OR room utilization to allow for optimal efficiency as much as possible.Manage and facilitate add on cases based on urgency classification, room and staff availability to ensure efficiency and safety of the patient.Proactively communicate with OR staff in room of changes to room schedule or assignmentCoordinate with Anesthesia provider in charge any changes, additions or concerns of the day''s schedule ongoing thought out the dayServe as a first-line communicator and converse effectively with Manager and/or House Supervisor when necessary.Conduct rounds in department at least once per shift to ensure visibility and staff needsBe available to backfill staff vacancy in OR room if staffing levels dictate.Assist staff with EHR documentation needs whenever necessary (i.e. blood)Manage EHR scheduling module and coordinate with surgeon needs of add on cases scheduled urgent/emergentlyRespond to CODE and emergency situations on unit as well as ensure the completion of required documentation during emergency situationsImplement appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrate appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicableAppropriately delegate patient care tasks to assigned personnel; providing follow-up for completion and patient responseWork collaboratively with other associated department leads to ensure efficiency and safety of patients (i.e. Preop, PACU, Endo, Central Sterile, IT, Radiology)Perform any and all other duties as assigned QualificationsWhat You''ll BringAssociate''s Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor''s Degree in Nursing PreferredAt least 1-3 years clinical Operating Room nursing experience Licensed as an RN in the State of New Jersey CNOR certification required to obtain within the first 6 months of employmentMaintain current BLSStrong verbal and interpersonal skillsSound critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervisionMust be able to work in a stressful environmentWhat We OfferCompetitive payMedical, dental, and vision insurance401k with Company matchCompany paid basic life insurance and long term disability coverageGenerous paid time off, including an additional extended illness bank6 Paid HolidaysTuition ReimbursementAdvancement and career development opportunitiesHackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer and applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of race, color, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.
