Amity is committed to research, development implementation, and dissemination of information regarding community building.Remembrance, Resolution, Reconciliation, Restoration, RenewalAbout the Position:The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for the delivery of face-to-face transformative and insight-oriented programming services provided in the Innovative Programming Grant project Thresholds of Change class. This position is responsible to administer pre- and post-assessments with students and completing fidelity assurance instruments to inform reporting and assess the impact of the program. What you will Do:Deliver Thresholds of Change classes to participants.Lead and participate in face-to-face group and individual meetings, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.Works directly with participants to consider the benefits of treatment and embrace readiness for personal change.Prepare accurate, concise, informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.Document course participation outcomes using acceptable methods and tools.Effective implementation of the scheduled program curriculum.Participate in immersion training to develop proficiency with Thresholds curriculum materials.Shall work collaboratively with CDCR/CCHMS and institution staff.Participate in community-building activities as appropriate to the position.Participate in training as appropriate.Additional duties as assigned.What you will bring:Maintain awareness of current training issues, needs, and opportunities.A Masters Degree in a social service-related field and registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; OR A Bachelors Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR An Associates Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and three (3) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR AOD certified and more than five (5) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.Be certified as an AOD Counselor by a certifying organization approved by DHCS, ORProvide monthly, documented proof of meaningful progress toward AOD certification and compliance with an approved individual training and development plan which does not exceed twenty-four (24) months to complete.Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.Understanding of program curriculum, objectives, and best practices for implementationKnowledge of the contractual requirements of the Innovative Programming Grant is essential.Fluent with Thresholds of Change curriculum, including theoretical framework, methodologies, and teaching techniques.Operational knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Access.Ability to provide genuine warmth, empathy, and real sensitivity to program participants to facilitate positive change.Ability to provide program participants with frequent acknowledgment and reinforcement for positive behaviors, as well as consistent and predictable feedback for negative behaviors, which may include reporting violations to CDCR staff.Ability to develop a treatment alliance with participants.Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and typing skills.Ensure that excellence and integrity are applied to professional responsibilities to provide optimal services to participants.Demonstrate ethical behavior to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.Demonstrate proper attitudes and techniques towards faculty, institution staff, and program participants.Model professionalism, effective work habits, and responsible living.What we offer:100% Employer-Sponsored HMO.PPO, Dental, and Vision options.Paid vacation, sick time & Holidays.401K, HSA & Life insurance programsAn organization committed to community action and social munity-oriented workplace.
