Job Summary Classification of Respiratory Therapist 1 or Respiratory Therapist 2 will be determined based upon the qualifications of the selected candidate.REG RESP THER 1: The Respiratory Therapist I (RT I) provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care services to patients of all age groups. Responds to cardiopulmonary emergencies providing airway maintenance and manual and mechanical ventilatory support using a variety of devices and techniques. Administers therapeutic gases, inhaled aerosol medications and humidity therapy. Obtains, reviews, and interprets data and assesses the need for and response to respiratory care interventions and consults with medical and nursing personnel to optimize patient care planning. Performs arterial blood gas analysis and a variety of cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures. Provides patient and family instruction in respiratory therapy self-administration and proper use of equipment and supplies.RESP THER 2: The Clinical Respiratory Therapist II serves as a role model and resource providing clinical leadership and service coordination that assures consistently high quality care and facilitating continuous improvement in respiratory care services. The Clinical Team Leader is responsible for providing patient care and assessment; interdisciplinary consultation; staff, patient, family, and community education; and performance monitoring. Required Qualifications REG RESP THER 1:Current and valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner LicenseCurrent Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) Certificate from NBRCGraduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program conferring eligibility to sit for the Registered Respiratory Therapist examination of the National Board of Respiratory TherapyStrong communication and leadership skillsDemonstrated ability to work independently and to collaborate and work effectively within intra and inter departmental teamsAbility to establish and maintain productive and positive working relationships with internal and external customersPossess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. This includes but is not limited to the ability to perform all of the required procedures and assessments and possession of a thorough understanding of the techniques and rationale for the selection and application of respiratory care proceduresFlexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locationsRESP THER 2:Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of CaliforniaBLSPALs - Specific to Pediatric Clinical Team Leaders / CoreNRP - Specific to Neonatal Clinical Team LeadersRRT - Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory TherapyMaintains advanced knowledge in respiratory care theory and industry best practices. Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend improvements to Respiratory operationsKnowledge of medical center, and UC policies and processes. Deep knowledge of all relevant cardiopulmonary industry federal, state and local laws and regulations. Ability to apply policy knowledge to proactively identify potential risk areas in RespiratorInterpersonal skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Maintains rapport and professional relationships with peers, peers in the industry, patients, multidisciplinary team members, managementDemonstrated abilities to listen actively, understand varying viewpoints and receive feedback. Skills to tactfully articulate and teach respiratory patient care concepts to staff.Knowledge of Respiratory Program''s registry and clinical databases and protocols and guidelines.
