Summary This position is located in the Fort Yates Indian Health Service Hospital at Fort Yates, ND in the Great Plains Area. The purpose of the position is to provide professional emergency room nursing care to patients in a general hospital and ambulatory care setting. This position requires licensure as a registered nurse and experience as stated in OPM regulations. Incumbent may be required to work rotational shifts, night, days, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities Performs triage, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by assuring quality of care; administering oral and parenteral medications; by assisting the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including casting, suturing, wound debridement, dressings, giving immunizations to adult and children; order xray and laboratory tests for ESI level I and II per Provider Verbal Order, initiates action for necessary care in collaboration with the provider; starts IV''s and administers IV medications Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements; obtaining preliminary health history; making physical assessments, recognizing the range of ''normal'' and other manifestations of common abnormalities; making appropriate consults to other team members and provides necessary service from assessment. Teaches patients by establishing patient care goals; teaching individuals and families to understand condition, medication, and self-care skills, answering questions and by promoting patient independence. Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies; promoting continuity of care by relevant health counseling, consults for follow-up care, arranging for appointments and collaborating with other agencies involved in health care. Document patient care services by charting in the patient''s electronic health record; recording observations, assessments, nursing interventions, and therapeutic measures administered. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-5: 1 full year of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience includes: development and implementation of a plan of care for assigned patients and providing nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness. GS-7: 1 full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: Experience at this level is performed under general supervision and work is reviewed periodically by another RN; assess and care for the nursing needs of ER patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients. GS-9: 1 full year of professional nursing experience(equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: assess and care for the nursing needs of ER patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients; plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department. GS-10: 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: provide nursing care, triage patients, recognize and intervene in acute life-threatening situations, cardiac and respiratory failure management in medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients in the emergency room; interpret data about the patient''s status in order to identify the patient care needed; independently plan, schedule and provide comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
