OverviewFTI is currently seeking a full time Data Scientist in support of Naval Safety Command in Norfolk, VA. The candidate will be working to support the development, testing, and deployment of a series of advanced predictive analytics models using big data sets that will help diagnose and predict precursors to Naval mishaps and safety hazards. The candidate will collaborate within a diverse program team comprised of FTI team members and Active-Duty Military and Government civilian employees. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in deciphering the data demonstrate the ability to provide training to the customer on the use and maintenance of data models. The candidate will operate in a hybrid work environment remotely and from Naval Station Norfolk. Responsibilities * Support in the development of a portfolio of predictive risk models to estimate mishap risk for individual Naval communities. Explore available data and create or utilize previously created models to identify areas ripe for operational exploitation and monitoring to reduce the risk of mishaps.* Provide guidance on technology, workforce skill sets, and efficient employment to perform risk modeling. Work in a collaborative environment to provide training to qualified Government personnel in the building, maintaining, and refining the portfolio of predictive analytics models.* Assist with the collection and organization of multiple data types, including but not limited to manning, maintenance, readiness, operational tempo, command climate, and incident reports. Apply data science and inductive reasoning approaches to analyze this data, perform statistical analyses as appropriate, and find correlations with respect to safety mishaps to allow senior leadership to implement risk mitigation measures.* Participate in technical interchange meetings, analytical update meetings, program management reviews, and other meetings as required.Education/Qualifications * Master''s Degree in Business Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields.* Minimum of 5 years of experience performing statistical analysis, data analysis, or operational research.* Experience with supervised learning algorithms such as linear/logistic regression, support vector machines, decision trees, neural networks, etc., as well as unsupervised techniques used in clustering and feature engineering.* Skills/ tools/ programming competency/ technical background - Predictive Analytics experience utilizing R, R Studio, and/or Python, SQL.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills* Must be a U. S. Citizen. The ability to obtain a DoD Secret Level Clearance is required but an active clearance is preferred.
