Essex Westford School District is seeking a dedicated, high-energy person to serve as a full-time Substitute Support Specialist at Thomas Fleming School. This position serves as a school-wide resource by filling in for a variety of teaching or special educator positions, as well as paraeducator positions, throughout the school; providing student supervisory duties to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students and to enable planning time for teachers; and serve as an administrative school-wide resource. This position will begin in the 2022-2023 school year. The Substitute Support Specialist is full-time, 8 hours per day, during the school year. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Short and semi-long term substitute for a variety of paraeducator positions • Supervise students as requested (during lunch, before and after school, etc.) • Short-term substitute coverage for licensed educator positions • Provide general administrative, classroom, and school-wide support Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: • Experience working in a school setting is preferred. • Knowledge of children with disabilities of special education students and special education teaching methods is preferred. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Ability to effectively redirect/manage behaviors as appropriate; background or training in de-escalation is preferred. • Commitment and dedication to a safe and respectful learning environment for all.
