Lifeguard

People of all ages and backgrounds come to the Y learn to swim, for water safety education, and to meet their health and wellness goals in the pool. Lifeguards are essential to ensuring a safe environment for those individuals. The lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas. (6pm - 9pm and Weekends)Join a forward-thinking non-profit organization in furthering our mission to provide programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all!KEY RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain constant surveillance of the pool areaKnow/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Complete related reports as requiredMaintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staffKnow, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areaPerform equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as neededCheck the pool for hazardous conditions Perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate actionQUALIFICATIONSExperience1-2 years'' related experience preferredEducationSome high school requiredCoursework in lifeguarding and/or water safety preferredCertificationLifeguard certification requiredBasic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration requiredThe Y: We''re for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility
