The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides medical evaluation and treatment of patients in collaboration with and under the direction of the Supervising Physician. The NP performs duties according to standardized procedures which have been developed corroboratively by administration, medical staff, nursing, Supervising Physician, and Nurse Practitioners and approved by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Board. The NP is an advanced practice registered nurse w ho possesses evidence based medical know ledge and skills in physical diagnosis, assessment, and management of health-illness needs in their area of clinical specialty or practice. The NP is academically and clinically trained to perform many of the routine/specific examinations and interventions for treatment and care of the patient population served. He/She can provide information to patients on health maintenance, disease prevention and counseling. The NP in this role will coordinate pre-surgical assessment, patient testing and consultations of surgical patients at various locations within the health system. This NP may assess surgical patients post-discharge or in the acute care setting.
