Maintenance Technician - Parks

Under general direction performs skilled and semi-skilled work in maintaining City parks, right of ways and medians, and City facilities. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for the cleaning, maintenance, care, and repair of parks, playgrounds, City facilities, public spaces, and landscaping for the Parks Division. • Responds to work ordersInspects and maintains tools and equipment used in assigned areaResponds to emergency call outsMows right of ways, park grounds and mediansOperates a variety of equipment including mowers, tree trimmers, edger''s, blowers, chainsaws, variety of hand tools, as required for assigned areaMaintains Park playgrounds, landscaping and fencingCleans restrooms, playground areas, athletic fields, trails, cooking areas and parking areasUtilizes City vehicle, backhoe, tractors, mowers, shovels, picks, rakes, brooms, hammers, saws, drills, concrete tools and other construction and maintenance related tools and equipment Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction; handles hazardous or dangerous situations with professionalism and efficiencyOther duties as assignedWORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, including heat, cold, and inclement weatherDaily exposure to electrical, mechanical and respiratory hazards; noise and vibrationREQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSESHigh School Diploma or GED; Texas Driver''s License, Class C minimum, Class A C.D.L. preferred. Driving record must be satisfactory to the City of Kaufman standards for employee motor vehicle/equipment operator.EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSExperience in operating various equipment such a riding and push type lawn mowers, tractor mowers, weed eaters is required.Must be able to work safely with various types of equipment including pumps, generators, backhoes, dump trucks, hand wrenches, hand and power saws, hammers of various sizes, shovels, drain spades and rakes, etc.Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenanceAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the publicAbility to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English, and to work independently in the performance of routine dutiesAbility to perform strenuous manual laborKnowledge of landscaping or irrigation preferredThe City of Kaufman requires pre-employment background checks, which includes driver history, and drug screening.The City of Kaufman, Texas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
