As a member of this team, you will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities. You''re ready for this opportunity if you have experience with embedded design, analog/mixed signal design, or RF. The systems we work with could have microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs from simple to large, displays, audio, inertial sensors, haptic interfaces, camera sensors, and high speed I/O. You should be comfortable designing mixed high-speed digital circuit boards, be experienced with troubleshooting at the board and system level, and be familiar with agile development processes. You should also have enough firmware skills to successfully bring boards up and get them to a proof-of-concept level of readiness, the ability to work with a team of researchers with tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity, and have experience designing and implementing high reliability and robust systems.This role needs to report weekly to R-Zero offices in San Francisco and San Jose CA. Regular travel to customer locations and our HQ in Salt Lake City UT is required as well. Our San Francisco office is very close to the Caltrain and public transportation and includes a variety of testing equipment and work stations. Our San Jose office features a full PCBA manufacturing facility, CNC machines, 3d printers, and basically everything you need to prototype and build products. Transportation costs to the offices are reimbursed.What You''ll Do:Take high level requirements and turn them into detailed specifications Locate devices that satisfy these requirements. For example: to lift 10 kg, specify a complete motor drive systemUnderstand sensors used for robotics and be able to specify sensor requirements, test and evaluate their performanceWrite programs and scripts to test and integrate new hardware into our systemsIncubating new technologies into research prototypesDevelop PCBA from concept all the way through large scale mass productionRequirementsWhat We''re Looking For:7-10+ years experience designing and shipping electronic products. Successful, large scale product deployments are looked at more closely than years of experience. Must report to Bay Area office Familiarity with robotics systemsFamiliarity with electrical hardware prototyping, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, soldering, etc.Familiarity with debugging electronics using tools such as oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply, etc.Skilled with sourcing components, validating alternate suppliers, etcDemonstrates strong aptitude for creative problem solvingExperience designing PCBs to meet UL requirements Experience managing EMI, specifically related to high voltage products. Experience with connected device / Internet of Things (IoT) productsProficient with Altium or similarExperience creating initial system bring-up code or debug and test code in C/C++. Experience programming a real-time operating system (RTOS), especially using FreeRTOS.Experience with LoRa and LTE are a plus.
