Design Engineer

Job Summary Using engineering techniques, helps to design, maintain, or improve new or existing products and/or components. Located in Trenton, TN. Job DutiesDesign, model and test prototypes for productsConduct research and create design proposals for projectsEstablish design briefsPerform and aid in root cause analysis associated with product returns, customer complaints, manufacturing-related issues, etc.Work with Manufacturing to identify problems with performance and manufacturingDocument experiments, tests and product development activities in reportsCreate concepts, performance and production criteriaIdentify and select materials needed for productionProduce final hand drawings and specificationsCreate parts listsList costs involved in productionMake samples of working models for demonstrationPlan marketing initiatives for productNegotiate appropriate production processesImprove usability of an itemUse computer-aided design (CAD) to design conceptsComplete all necessary documents fully and accuratelyAid and coordinate tasks associated with new product development (DFMEA, PFMEA, drawing/model creation, simulation, prototyping, etc.)Develop, maintain and execute maintain test plans and associated timelinesAdhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.)Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and proceduresPerform other duties as assigned Experience and EducationPerforms work under general supervisionHandle moderately complex issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher-level staffPossess solid working knowledge of subject matterMay provide leadership, coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate groupTypically require a bachelor''s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or similar field, and 5+ years of experience Competencies/ SkillsGood verbal and written communication skillsStrong technical skillsComputer Skills: Solidworks, AutoCad, FEA, ExcelCreativityAbility to meet deadlinesPlanning skillsLeadership skills
