Find your future with us.Boeing Commercial Airplanes is looking for Avionics Engineers to join the 5G integration team in Everett, Washington! We provide multi-model support across the entirety of Boeing''s commercial airplane fleet (from the 707 to the DC-8 to the 737 to the 787). This job includes supplier oversight, test procedure development, lab testing, on-aircraft testing, coordination with interfacing systems, customer communication, and internal leadership communication.The clock is ticking and the industry has less than a year to certify, manufacture equipment, and retrofit 5,000+ Boeing airplanes flying in/out of the United States with upgraded, 5G resilient radio altimeters.If you want to work in a highly visible, very fast paced environment, while coordinating with suppliers and customers daily, overseeing the modification of avionics equipment, and communicating status to company leadership, then come join our 5G avionics integration team. Our team is looking for highly motivated, eager engineers to join our team for 8-12 months as we work to certify, manufacture, and retrofit 5,000+ airplanes with 5G resilient radio altimeters. We are looking for passionate, curious, and motivated engineers who are eager to find unique solutions to the certification, supply chain, and retrofit challenges we face over the next year. This development cycle is typically upward of 18 months and we are looking to accomplish this within the next 6 months (6 months to certify + 6 months to retrofit) - outside-the-box thinking and a willingness to challenge the status quo are required.As we''ve learned over the last few months, the signals emitted by 5G base stations can have adverse effects on our commercial airplanes. Interim actions have been taken to limit the deployment of 5G networks near airports to protect the safety of our products and flying public. Now, the expiration date for those interim actions has been set and we have until July 1, 2023 to retrofit 5,000+ airplanes in the United States with new radio altimeters.Position Responsibilities:Works with suppliers and Boeing engineers to develop, test, integrate, and certify radio altimeters across all Boeing airplanes.Develops and documents integrated plans across design engineering, supply chain, airplane programs, and customer engineering.Coordinates hardware and software design reviews with experts across the company.Leads a team of STFs and PSTFs across BR&T and BCA to design, plan, and execute various airplane levels test of RF environments.Tests and validates system designs to ensure they meet operational, functional, and performance requirements.Monitors supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.Solves problems concerning avionics certification strategies and reuse of previously certified compliance data via STCs The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Bachelors of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in an engineering discipline, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.3 or more years of experience in Avionics, Electronics, or RF environment/sensor engineeringExperience working with Design Engineering and Regulatory through all phases of certification; Amended Type Certification (ATC), Supplemental Type Certification (STC) and/or Military Type Certification (MTC)Experience working with multiple internal or external stakeholders (i.e. business partner, customer, Finance, suppliers) in planning and executing projects or transactions Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):ABET AccreditationExperience as a designer, implementer, or user of avionics equipment (commercial or military)Familiarity with RF filter designs and implementationsFamiliarity with system level and airplane level certification approaches and strategies (including TSOs and STCs)Familiarity with HIRF/Lightning requirements, including issues papers associate with HIRF/Lightning requirementsProven track record to understand and communicate technical topics and perform engineering analysis and trade studiesTesting experience - in particular, avionics equipment testing in a laboratory environmentFamiliarity with developing test procedures, with a focus on failure conditions and edge casesSelf-starter with an exceptional focus on delivering quality results in a timely manner while challenging the status quoStrong communication skills around sophisticated, technical issues, and the ability to effectively present to myriad audiencesWorking proficiency in one of the following: C, C++, Python, Java, Matlab, or .NetFamiliarity with Functional Hazard Assessments, Failure Mode Effect Analyses and/or Fault Tree AnalysesEqual Opportunity Employer:Boeing is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
