ST Product Development Associate, Senior

PPG is looking for a S&T Product Development Associate to join our growing Traffic Solutions liquid coatings technical team. You will be an authority related to Traffic Solution liquid coatings including water-based paint formulation and performance testing and investigations. Key Responsibilities Design and conduct lab experiments consisting of: formulating new and existing paints, evaluating raw materials, assessing packing feasibility, and performing root cause analyses. Problem-solving, maintenance of existing products, new product development, test drills, correcting plant issues, and product stewardship and sustainability improvements are within the scope of responsibility. Understanding of fundamental principles of structure-property relationship and root cause analysis to design effective experiments and test new ideas directed at improving coatings properties to add value through improved performances, ability to meet regulatory requirements, reduce costs or improved efficiency in manufacturing and applications. May be required to utilize or develop new test methods, processes, or procedures requiring originality, ingenuity, and resourcefulness. Lead product development projects and influence and delegate activities to team members and/or contractors throughout the course of a project in order to achieve key milestones. Closely coordinate with Product Management, Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales functions to maintain business alignment. Qualifications 5+ years minimum of experience in a water-based coatings formulation laboratory or plant setting required, as well as a B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent scientific degree required; Masters or PhD preferred. Proven understanding of coatings formulation practices and familiarity with waterborne paint, solvent paint, and/or reactive coatings technology platforms, as well as, related knowledge of fast dry latexes, co-polymers, pigments, solvents, additives, and performance test methods strongly desired. Familiarity with lab and production scale processing equipment, Sigma logic design of experiments (DOE), as well as process oriented and problem-solving skills are crucial for success. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular) is required. Strong Excel skills and the ability make professional level presentations is desired.
