Job DetailsJob LocationWalter Reed National Military Medical Center - Bethesda, MDEducational Qualifications/Licensure/Certifications:Degree/Education: Nurses shall have successfully completed the undergraduate or graduate degree appropriate to the sub-specialty.Licensure/Registration: Valid license in at least one (1) state territory or commonwealth of the US.Board Certification.Experience: Minimum of 1-year experience within the preceding 3-years in pediatric intensive care unit. Will consider applicants with a combined minimum of 2 years neonatal ICU/pediatric ICU experience and ability to pass written PICU competency.Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: In addition to BLS, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) required to work on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).Additional qualifications:Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.Shall be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members.Shall be sufficiently skilled to teach patients proper self-care and to motivate patients and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing.Shall be knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients. The contract RN shall demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the appropriate patient population served: infants, children, adolescent, adults, and geriatric (>65).Possess knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments related to prevention, and detection of illnesses in adults, is desirable.Be knowledgeable in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients, as appropriate.Possess knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.Be a U.S. citizen.Work Schedule:This is a Full time position, with both 12 hour day shift and 12 hour night shifts available. Day Shift is 6:45 am to 7:30 pm and Night Shift is 6:45 pm to 7:30 am. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The Contractor may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures. The Contractor may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The Contractor must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete all Credentialing Health requirements as a condition of employment, such as TB, Hepatitis, Rubella, etc.QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Must possess an associate, baccalaureate and/or masters degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing or accredited school for all other certifications.Experience: At least one year recent experience working within your specialty within the last three years. Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license in good standing. (Expiration date applies).
