The Materials Manager is responsible for directing and controlling the flow of materials into the plant, maintaining the balance between reducing Inventory DOH and avoiding production interruptions. Manages inventory stocking levels and accuracy, proactive planning activities, and order and stocking policiesJob Responsibilities: • Develop, forecast and control inventory levels based on historic data, SIOP forecasts and other commitments, in order to balance inventory with production requirements• Directs material planning staff (local and centralized) to ensure objectives, schedules and budgets are achieved. • Determines materials requirements needed to meet production schedules, inventory levels, and customer demands to achieve on-time production and inventory management requirements. • Drives creative inventory strategies to optimize inventory levels and reduce costs.• Coordinates with other functional areas to ensure smooth program and/or part launches, flow of materials• Monitors business trends and economic cycles in order to anticipate change in order flow from customers and material availability from suppliers. • Analyzes and evaluates inventory and delivery problems and recommends and/or implements solutions to optimize inventory levels and manufacturing schedules, including driving material variance requests. • Evaluates work performance of the group annually, or as required, in order to facilitate performance management, merit promotions, transfers, dismissals, commendations, etc.• Arranges for the sale of scrap, manage obsolete reserve, surplus materials and by-products in order to minimize excess material. • Manage Premium Freight Expense and Recovery (Inbound and Outbound).• Achieve supplier performance goal of 90% by working with suppliers, supplier quality and purchasing to ensure optimal supply flow.• Integrate continuous improvement into processes to achieve best performance possible. • Act as liaison between the plant and the CMP (Central Materials Planning) team in corporate HQ.
