This position requires a highly motivated and experienced nursing personnel, who is committed to providing high quality service to our patients, our staff and our medical staff. This is a position of high responsibility that requires great attention to detail. The Pre-Op/PACU Coordinator supervises pre-op and PACU staff members in order to ensure a daily smooth flow of cases within the surgery schedule. Ensures credentials meet regulatory agency requirements and adhere to Medical Staff Bylaws/Facility policy. Provides nursing care within state standards of practice and the policies of the Surgery Center. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members. Helps maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of unit as a whole. May have additional responsibilities as designed by the Director of Nursing/Administrator, which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other departments (after being oriented and educated), serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects.Job Title: PREOP/PACU CoordinatorReporting Relationship: Reports to the Clinical Director. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:Supervises the pre-op/PACU staff to provide a daily smooth flow of cases.Assists in coordination of daily case staffing/scheduling in pre-op/PACU with other staff to ensure schedule will flow smoothly. Assists in preparing daily and weekly nursing staff schedules.Prepare, coordinate and perform daily huddle meetings with each department to ensure smooth flow of surgery municate effectively with physicians to resolve issues and provide efficiency and smooth case flow.Assists in communicating to materials management regarding ordering of instruments and equipment for departments.Coordinate inventory quarterly in pre-op/PACU areas.Assists with education by coordinating and/or giving in-services.Assists in on-boarding orientation and education for new staff members within pre-op/PACU.Assists in communicating with vendors and representatives for supplies, equipment or instruments that are needed for cases.Assists in ordering of medications within pharmacy, maintains adequate supply of medications for the center, and communicates medication supply issues effectively and timely to clinical director, administrator and staff members. Maintains compliance of standards in pharmacy based on Joint Commission and government regulatory agencies to ensure pharmacy license is not jeopardized.Works closely with materials department to coordinate supplies & instrument needs.Assists in preparing and performing annual evaluations alongside the clinical director.Works closely with clinical director with hiring and orienting OR staff membersAssistance in maintaining compliance for Joint Commission surveys. Ensures continued compliance with government regulatory agencies, i.e. HIPPA, the facilities accrediting organizational standards, and Joint Commission.Responsibility of monitoring staff member''s performance and times based on Kronos time keeping program to maintain optimum worked hours per case as set by the administratorAssistance with staff counseling as necessaryCoordinates and assists in Performance Improvement Projects.Formulates and implements nursing philosophy and objectives consistent with the stated goals of the Center.Assists in developing policies, procedures, and staffing essential to the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of the Center. Reviews and revises these in collaboration with the Administrator, the nursing staff and the professional staff, keeping up to date on current trends in nursing practice and patient care.Evaluates process improvement programs and patient care activities.Assures documentation of patient care meets criteria dictated by legal practice, state, and federal health standards.Provides leadership and support in developing and maintaining effective relationships with the center staff and the medical staff.Establishes, maintains, analyzes, and evaluates standards of nursing care within the Pre-op and, PACU areas in compliance with professional nursing itiates and / or supports activities to control costs.Delegates responsibilities to another staff R.N. in his / her absence with notification to the Administrator.Reduces chance of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices.Holds individual employees accountable for assigned responsibilities, individual goals, and performance expectations through annual performance evaluations and conferences.Establishes, maintains, and evaluates quality control studies within the pre-operative and PACU areas in collaboration with the Clinical Director and the Administrator to improve the services these departments provide to others.Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance, and participates in emergency preparedness drills.Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy and HIPPA regulations.Follows the Center''s professional code of conduct and dress code municates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians and their office staffs, patients, and employees.Attends all mandatory in-services and meetings.Qualifications: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Currently licensed in the state. CPR required, advanced life support certification required. One year experience required intra-operative setting. Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
