Position Title: CATIII Chinese Mandarin Linguist Position Identifier: 2277020522 Location: Kaneohe Bay, HI U.S. Security Clearance Required: TS/SCI with CI Polygraph Employment Type: Full-Time Shift: Most work is normal day-shift hours. Some work may require personnel to surge to shift work, extended hours, on-call, weekends and more than forty hours per week as dictated by world events. Travel: May require travel on an as needed basis to CONUS and/or OCONUS locations. Description: o CAT III Linguists shall provide foreign language interpretation and translation/transcription services in the Specified Contract Required Language (SCRL) to primarily support user SIGINT requirements, and Counter-Intelligence/Human Intelligence (CI/HUMINT) and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) requirements as necessary. Qualifications: o Must be a US Citizen, Native proficiency required. o Must have at least 4 years'' experience of interpretation/translation. o Computer skills of Microsoft Office Suite are required. o Interagency Language Round Table (ILR) level 3 in both Target Language and English. o Linguist shall have a command of English and at Chinese Mandarin languages. The laydown of contractor to a SCRL will be pre-coordinated with the primary supported unit. Unless otherwise prescribed, the interpreter must be able to (1) comprehend coordinated SCRL and English as spoken and written, (2) speak both of these languages, (3) choose an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source SCRL, (4) have familiarity with the cultural context of both languages, (5) have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields, (6) observe protocols applicable to different settings, and (7) master the modes applicable to these settings. Able to interpret/translate using colloquial and slang words and phrases. o Translation: Linguist shall provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, as identified above, with the meaning and intent of the original text (Translation). Services shall include translation of documentation by technically qualified and experienced translators at the level of competency required. Unless otherwise proscribed, translators shall (1) read and comprehend the SCRL and English, (2) write comprehensibly in both of these languages, and (3) choose the equivalent expression in English that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source SCRL (referred to as congruity judgment). Able to accurately provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations and provide advice on the cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents, etc. o Transcription: Linguist shall provide written translations of aural, videotape, and/or other sources from one language into another language, with the meaning and intent of the original source preserved. Services shall include transcription of aural sources by technically qualified and experienced translators at the level of competency required. Unless otherwise proscribed, transcribers shall (1) listen or view the material and comprehend the SCRL and English, (2) write comprehensibly in both of these languages, and (3) choose the equivalent expression in English that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source SCRL. Able to conduct consecutive and accurate translations, transcription and interpretations of on-going conversations and activities and intelligence activities to and from target language.o Discovery: Linguists shall provide translations of foreign PAI found employing government provided resources. This information includes, but is not limited to, major periodicals, routine correspondence, general reports, and technical and academic material. The contractor shall demonstrate basic research techniques and intermediate Internet usage.
