Position Overview Join us in our fast-paced support to the Space Development Agency (SDA )! Since SDA''s standup just 3 years ago, it has become known as the Department of Defense''s ''constructive disruptor''. SDA is achieving space acquisitions at a pace never seen within the government. Just recently, the SDA announced it''s $1.8B award to three satellite vendors including York Space Systems, Lockheed Martin Space and Northrop Grumman Space Systems for its 126 optically interconnected space vehicles for its Tranche 1 Transport Layer mission. SDA''s Transport Layer provides assured, resilient, low-latency military data and connectivity worldwide to the full range of warfighter platforms. SDA will soon award its Operations and Integration contract which will deliver Operations Centers and Ground Entry Points to control its the satellite mesh network and its Tranche 1 Tracking Layer Contract which will deliver Optical Sensor satellites. Each of these systems will be interconnected and require a significant systems engineering effort. Avantus has immediate openings for mid to senior level satellite RF engineers to serve as the SDA''s Tranche 1 satellite RF subsystem experts. The candidate will provide technical expertise to government program managers across multiple satellite vendor designs. The candidate will review designs and provide feedback and recommendations to ensure individual satellites will meet SDA''s architecture needs. The candidate will use their experience in RF system designs to ensure the system will meet requirements. The SDA will incorporate UHF (Integrated Broadcast Service), S band (TT&C, tactical satellite communications) and L band (Link 16) and is looking for experts in these systems. Avantus seeks a perceptive, creative leader with the ability to successfully solve challenging problems. The applicant must be confident and have a knack to digest complex ideas to determine the feasibility of success. Responsibilities * Responsible for providing subject matter expertise in the satellite RF design for multiple vendors * Inform design, manufacture, test, integration, and sustainment of RF communications and subsystems * Leverage and advance your RF expertise to provide support across a variety of system development lifecycles * Support the SDA''s Tranche 1 Program Management and Systems Engineering team * Review engineering documents and provide SME support * Provide technical advice/input to customer''s System Program Director that lays the strategic foundation for critical, national capability and customer''s future initiatives * Resolve highly complex and multi-dimensional problems requiring consideration of variables that impact multiple aspects of the project/program * Understand and contribute to system designs and technical approaches to guide next generation systems to provide resilient space systems for space based RF communications systems * Support requirements management and analysis, interface management, architecture development and test and evaluation processes * Incorporate Joint Warfighter, Mission Partners and internal SDA team''s feedback and input on product strategy and identify the best path to improve efficiencies * Collect and analyze feedback from end-users, stakeholders and other teams to shape processes * Support application product managers and coordinate cross-functional teams (i.e. Government, Military, SETA, FFRDC, UARC, & Industry) Required Qualifications * Bachelor''s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or relevant technical discipline * Minimum of 8 years experience in satellite RF communications and system design * Top Secret Clearance is required; Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance; Avantusclearedjob * Telework is acceptable from these locations: DC Metro, Colorado Springs, CO; Huntsville, AL; Los Angeles, CA; Melbourne, FL * Technical and analytic understanding of RF systems * Understanding or experience in Integrated Broadcast Service, Tactical Satellite Communications or Link 16 systems. * Understanding of satellite acquisition and operations technology best practices * Agile framework familiarity * Organizational and leadership abilities * Excellent communication skills * Problem-solving aptitude * Creative thinking skills * Ability to work in fast paced environment with excellent oral and written communication skills. * The status of applicable COVID-19 vaccination requirements under Executive Order 14042 are subject to change depending on applicable court orders and the course of ongoing litigation.
