SUMMARY The Laboratory Technician III will provide scientific research support and ensure experiments are performed in a safe and clean environment as well as document appropriately. This position is for future and ongoing prospecting needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes the following: * Performs manual, semi-automated and automated experiments in support of PCR and PCR like work. * Performs DNA/RNA extraction and purification. * Performs common Microbiology techniques in BSL2/3 environments. * Supports the Special Pathogens Laboratory. * Maintains the laboratory facility and equipment. * Ensures the safety and cleanliness of work areas/equipment. * Ensures all experiments are performed and documented in accordance with applicable regulations dictated by study protocol. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. SUPERVISOR/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY This position will not have supervisory/management authority. EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE * Bachelor''s degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field and * 1-2 years'' experience in a microbiology or molecular biology laboratory. Preferred 3+ years laboratory experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Working knowledge of and skilled in PCR. * Skilled in DNA/RNA extractions and purifications. * Knowledge of Microbiology techniques. * Knowledge of GLP, CLIP and COLA regulations. * Attention to details; accurate record keeping. * Willingness to work in BSL-2/3 high containment laboratories. * Ability to work in a matrixed, team-oriented environment involving multiple projects. * Ability to secure and maintain a security clearance and enrollment in the Biosurety Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP). * Working knowledge of BSL-3 laboratory. * Proven clinical diagnostics and regulatory laboratory skills. * Ability to provide proof of US citizenship. * An active Secret Clearance which can be verified in DISS is required * Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and background investigation prior to hire. WORK ENVIRONMENT * Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled and laboratory environment. * Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings.
