Description Description Job summaryDo you want to accelerate how thousands of teams deliver high-quality shopping and reading features to millions of customers around the world? Are you interested in building systems that scale across diverse and complex delivery models and hold teams accountable to a high bar while not requiring them to be experts in specialized customer needs? If yes, you should join our Accessibility Developer Experience Team. We are launching a series of new products and services to enable builder teams across Amazon to deliver products that are born accessible and we are looking for a Software Development Engineer to help revolutionize the way we design and build tools to drive great experiences for our customers with disabilities. We are currently inventing new frameworks and builder tools across mobile and web to ensure all new customer facing features in the Consumer organization meet the defined Accessibility ship bar for customers. This is a highly collaborative role working with TPMs, PMs and SDM leaders across Community Shopping and Books.Key job responsibilitiesAs a Software Development Engineer, you will be creative in your approaches to build out systems that support automated discovery of accessibility issues in our reading apps, shopping and purchasing experiences, and author and publisher tools. You will be comfortable working on enterprise level builder tools. You must be proactive, responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. You will work with teams building across dozens of surfaces, languages and marketplaces. You will challenge the traditional mental model for builder tools. You are passionate about solving challenging problems. You demonstrate a solid understanding of computer science principles, can articulate design tradeoffs with senior technical leaders, and lead a team to architect software for maximum longevity. The software you will build should expose usability and accessibility defects in production level code at the API, component, feature and UI integration levels with your success measured by the adoption rate of your tools and technology and the resulting rate at which Books and Community Shopping features ship at the defined bar. You are able to think outside the box and are driven to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.A day in the lifeAs a Software Development Engineer, you will* Invent software solutions including delivering designs, hands on problem-solving and writing efficient code. * Instill best practices for software development and documentation, making sure designs meet requirements, and delivering high quality software on tight schedules.* Influence other teams by providing guidance on technical implementations that meet the accessibility guidelines as well as contributing to the definition of the Amazon Accessibility Bar.About the teamThe A11yBaR team is focused on solving the challenges faced by people with disabilities. We own the "Accessible Customer Experience" supporting readers, shoppers, and authors with disabilities across all of Amazon''s Core Shopping and Kindle experiences. We work to ensure every customer can shop on Amazon, read any book with Kindle, or publish their own books and stories through Kindle Direct Publishing.Basic Qualifications 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.2+ years of non-internship professional software development experienceProgramming experience with at least one software programming language.Preferred Qualifications * Experience building products and services that are accessible to blind and low vision customers, complying with industry standards such as WCAG 2.x.* Strong empathy for customers with disabilities.* Mobile application development on iOS and/ or AndroidAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
