Accepts accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients. Prepares patients and assists in monitoring the patient''s condition during invasive cardiovascular procedures.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Assists the cardiologist in routine cardiac diagnostic procedures and in minor surgical procedures. Assists in monitoring the patient''s condition during invasive cardiac procedures. Involved in problem-solving and calibration of monitoring equipment used during invasive cardiac procedures. Prepares patients for cardiovascular procedures when necessary and transports patient to procedure room. Receives requests and schedules patients for specialized diagnostic procedures, arranging for patient transport to procedural area and to post procedure location. Prepares the proper electromechanical radiologic equipment and accessories and other devices utilized in the performance of invasive cardiovascular procedures. Administers medications, contrast fluids, flush fluids, and treatments, and carries out physician orders which relate to the practice of nursing. Notes all physician orders. Participates in regularly scheduled stand-by system. Assists in maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of patient and work areas. Reports operational, functional, and system equipment problems to department manager. Assists in preparing, cleaning, and sterilizing of disposable and continued-use supplies. Provides accurate angiographic image identification, processes cineangiographic images, and determines appropriate image quality control. Provides relevant information necessary for patient billing. Performs all essential duties and responsibilities listed under Cardiac Special Procedures Tech. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Health System.SUPPLEMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides clinical demonstrations to health technology students and participates in departmental inservice education and staff development activities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education:Graduation from accredited nursing program, New hires as of 1/1/12 must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within the specified time frame.Licensure:Requires current Michigan Nursing LicenseRequired Skills and Abilities: Mechanical and mathematical aptitude needed for calibration and operation of equipment.Ability to interpret medical terminology.Ability to maintain certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.Must successfully complete ACLS course.Must successfully compete mandatory pharmacology course.Knowledge of potential radiation hazards and appropriate safety practices and procedures.Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion Trinity Health is a family of 115,000 colleagues and nearly 26,000 physicians and clinicians across 25 states.
